Cole Lavergne Named Final SCAC Pitcher of the Week for 2018

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior Cole Lavergne, earning a five-inning save in his final pitching appearance at Shehee Stadium on Sunday, April 29, was named the final Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

In the game, Centenary beat top-ranked Trinity, 9-3. The victory clinched the Diamond Gents third outright SCAC Regular Season Championship in the last four years and the top seed in the upcoming Conference Baseball Tournament.

Entering in the top of the fifth with a man on base and the Gents leading 5-2, the Tigers scored a run to cut in to the lead. However, with one out and the bases loaded, freshman Peyton Cormane snagged a liner and flipped to junior Andrew Russell standing on second to complete the double play.

In the last four innings, Lavergne only allowed a pair of hit batsmen and a pair of infield hits that were pounded into the ground down the left field line to third base. For all five innings, Lavergne threw 60 pitches and 48 strikes.

Lavergne also threw five innings in Saturday night's 13-inning marathon. He allowed a pair of runs in the 13th as the Tigers won 5-3.

For the season, Lavergne ranks second in the conference in both saves (six) and ERA (1.77), ranking 28th and 54th in the country in those statistical categories, respectively.

As a team after taking 2-of-3 against the top-ranked team in the nation, Centenary received four votes in both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3Baseball.com national rankings.

The top seed in the SCAC Tournament, Centenary returns to action Friday afternoon against fourth-seeded Southwestern at 1 p.m. The 2018 Conference Tournament will be contested at The Depot in Cleburne, Texas.
