Devillier Named SCAC, Louisiana Pitcher of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Junior right-handed pitcher Matthew Devillier has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season Monday afternoon, April 23.

Also announced Monday afternoon, Devillier garnered Louisiana Pitcher of the Week honors from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

In the second game of a doubleheader Friday night (April 20) against Austin College, a 7-0 Gents win, Devillier (5-3) allowed only two walks and struck out a career high 12 'Roos. The game was the first Centenary no hitter in the NCAA Division III era.

Devillier ended the game in style when he struck out the side in the ninth. He went 3-0 on the final hitter of the game, but two strikes looking and then a swing and a miss ended the contest. He finished the game with 115 pitches, 73 of them for strikes.

Austin College almost had its first hit with a fly ball to center in the fourth, but junior Cameron Guin came charging in to make a diving catch. The leadoff batter in the top of the eighth hit a sharp grounder between first and second, but senior first baseman Cole Lavergne dove for the ball and flipped to Devillier covering first for the out.

Devillier also retired the side in order in an inning of relief against East Texas Baptist Tuesday, April 17.

Centenary returns to action Saturday with a doubleheader against top-ranked Trinity. The Gents and Tigers complete the three-game series with a single game Sunday. Whoever wins the series will be the SCAC Regular Season Champions and the top seed in the Conference Tournament.
