The Diamond Gents (5-4) will finally play on their home field after nine road/neutral games. Centenary's season-opening series against Rhodes College last month was moved to Tennessee. The Comets enter Tuesday's play at 8-3 overall and are 4-3 on the road. They have lost two games in a row after being swept by McMurry in a doubleheader on Saturday in Abilene, Texas.

Centenary, which finished 3-1 on their trip to California Feb. 23-25, had its season-high four-game winning streak snapped on the 25th by Chapman University, falling 8-7. The Diamond Gents recorded a three-game series sweep of the Occidental College Tigers on Feb. 23-24 as they finished the series with a pair of convincing wins in a doubleheader by scores of 14-5 in game one and 13-3 in game two. The Diamond Gents won the series opener on Friday, 6-5.

The Diamond Gents, 13-7 at home last season, are likely eager to be back in the comfort of their home dugout as the Maroon and White are 46-15 at Shehee Stadium since the beginning of the 2021 season. The Gents set a D3 era single-season record for home wins (17) during that 2021 season as they won their first 16 at Shehee Stadium. The Diamond Gents went 10-8 in road/neutral games last season.

Centenary is hitting .334 as a team with an on-base percentage of .403 and is slugging .485. The Diamond Gents are averaging 7.5 runs per game and have belted eight home runs. They have 32 extra-base hits, 10 stolen bases, and have posted at least 10 hits in eight of nine games this season. Centenary pounded the Occidental pitching staff for 34 hits Feb. 23-24 and finished with a whopping 44 hits and 33 runs in the series. The Diamond Gents collected 10+ hits in a game 22 times last season. Centenary ranks 42nd nationally in batting average and 59th in slugging and the Diamond Gents lead the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in batting average and are second in OBP and slugging. Centenary ranks second in the conference in team ERA (4.91) as junior Zachary Malone (Hallsville, Texas) leads the team with an impressive 1.03 ERA as he has allowed just one earned run in 8.2 innings pitched with six hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts.

Freshman 1B Alex Miller (Cypress, Texas) is Centenary's leading hitter this season as he is batting a sizzling .462 with a .576 OBP and is slugging .885. Miller was named the Div. III Rookie of The Month by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Feb. 28 and the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week on Feb. 27.

Miller batted .462 (12-for-26) with nine runs, eight RBI, five walks, three homers, and two doubles in February. He posted four multi-hit games over the seven he played in, headlined by a 3-for-5 day with two doubles, a run scored, and RBI in a 13-3 win at Occidental on Feb. 24. Miller went 5-for-13 with four runs, four RBI, and two homers in the Gents' three-game sweep of Occidental.
