
Gents Set To Face Wildcats In First Road Contest Of Season

The Gents (1-0) opened their season with an 87-77 victory over the Arlington Baptist University Patriots in a non-conference contest on Nov. 9 at home and then fell 86-69 on Thursday night in an exhibition contest versus LSUS at the Gold Dome. Louisiana Christian (formerly Louisiana College) enters Tuesday's game at 3-3 overall and the teams are meeting for the first time since Centenary recorded a 76-66 home win over the Wildcats on Dec. 14, 2019.
Centenary had a pair of players reach double figures in Thursday's game against the Pilots, led by 19 from junior F Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas). Senior F Jarrell Taylor (Leesville, La.) joined Thomas in double figures with 15 off the bench in 25 minutes. He scored 17 in his Gents' debut on Tuesday. Taylor shot 5-11 from the floor on Thursday night, making 3-6 of his three-point attempts and grabbed four rebounds. Thomas was 8-18 from the floor in 29 minutes, connected on a pair of treys, and had three rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
Junior G Ralph Johnson (New Iberia, La.) and senior G Kile Mingo (Cypress, Texas) each scored nine points on Thursday after doing so in Tuesday's season opener. Mingo went 3-6 from beyond the arc and added three rebounds, a pair of steals, and an assist in 23 minutes while Johnson played 32 minutes and grabbed two rebounds with a steal.
Sophomore G Braeden Board (Rayne, La.) scored six points as he was a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line in 25 minutes. He had four rebounds, four steals, an assist, and a block. He scored a career-high 17 points in the Gents' season-opening win over Arlington Baptist as he scored 10 first-half points as he was perfect (3-3) from three-point range and finished the game with six rebounds, three steals, and an assist.
Junior G Jalen Behr (Athens, Ga.), senior G AJ Hall (Thibodaux, La.), and senior G Tevin Baker (Port Arthur, Texas) combined for 11 points off the bench with six rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Behr grabbed five rebounds, three coming on the defensive end, in 13 minutes of action.
The Gents raced out to a 57-26 halftime lead in their season-opening win over the Patriots last week as they shot a sizzling 58.3 % from the floor (21-36) and made 9 of 18 three-point attempts. Centenary won its season opener for the second season in a row and for the third time in the last four years and is also unbeaten in its last three home openers.
Three players were in double figures at the half, led by the senior transfer Taylor, who put up an impressive 17 points in his Centenary debut. He made 6 of his 9 field goal attempts and went 2-2 from beyond the arc. Behr was also making his Gents' debut and scored 12 first-half points, going 4 of 6 from the field and made a pair of three-point baskets. He grabbed five rebounds and dished out a pair of assists. Taylor finished with 17 and Behr with 12.
Johnson, Mingo, and Hall each scored nine points and Johnson had four assists, three steals, and two rebounds. Mingo added three rebounds, two steals, and an assist, and Hall grabbed a pair of rebounds. Thomas scored seven points in 26 minutes along with three rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal. Junior F Joseph Wiggins (Bossier City, La.) scored four points in 10 minutes in his first game as a Gent and junior G Drew Young (Lake Charles, La.) scored three points with a rebound in 12 minutes.
Centenary remains on the road this weekend as the Maroon and White will head to Jackson, Miss. to compete in the Millsaps Tournament Nov. 20-21 and finish up the road trip at Mississippi University for Women on Nov. 23 in Columbus, Miss. The Gents' next home game is Tuesday, Nov. 30 versus Millsaps at 6 p.m.
