Gents Back Home For Rematch With Millsaps On Tuesday

Shreveport - The Centenary men's basketball team returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks on Tuesday as the Gents will face the Millsaps College Majors in a non-conference contest set for 6 p.m. at the Gold Dome.

The Gents (3-2) enter Tuesday's action riding high after a pair of decisive road wins last week over the Mississippi University for Women Owls (73-52) last Tuesday which followed a 73-50 victory over Millsaps on Nov. 21 in Jackson, Miss. The Majors are 2-5 overall and have not played since that loss to the Gents. Centenary has now won consecutive games by 20 or more points for the first time since the 2018-19 season when the Maroon and White beat Texas Lutheran 89-69 (Dec. 30) and Colorado College (Jan. 4) 74-49.

Centenary is an impressive 24-7 in its last 31 home games over the last four seasons. The Gents are 13-9 all-time against the Majors and the two are meeting in the Gold Dome for the first time since the Gents recorded an 84-51 on Nov. 19, 2019.

The Gents have held six opponents to 60 points or less in a game since the beginning of last season and have held five of those opponents to 52 or less. Centenary shot a season-best 52.0 % from the floor, nailed a season-high 12 three pointers, and made 9-10 of free throw attempts in its best overall offensive performance so far this season versus the Owls. The Maroon and White had three players score in double figures, had a season-low eight turnovers, and led 43-23 at halftime.

Senior G AJ Hall (Thibodaux, La.) led the Gents with a career-high 21 points in 27 minutes off the bench on 8-10 shooting overall. He was a sizzling 5-6 from three-point range and had four rebounds and an assist.

Hall was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday following his stellar performance versus the Owls. He is now averaging 10.0 PPG in 21.8 minutes/game with 3.3 rebounds per game. Hall is shooting 41.2 % from the floor for the season and 75 % from the free throw line.

Senior F Jarrell Taylor (Leesville, La.) continued his hot start to his first season with the Gents after transferring from ETBU as he scored 16 points in 33 minutes on 6-10 shooting from the floor. He grabbed five rebounds and had two steals and an assist. He hit 2-4 three-point attempts and was 2-2 from the free throw line.

Taylor has now reached double figures in four of the Gents' five regular-season games this season after posting a career high 24 points and 13 rebounds in the previous game versus Millsaps. He enters Tuesday's play tied for sixth in the conference in scoring as he averages 15.4 PPG. He also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.6 per game.

Junior G Jalen Behr (Athens, Ga.) scored 10 points in 23 minutes, making 4-7 shots from the floor and went 2-4 from three-point range. He added five rebounds and a steal. Junior F Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) scored nine points in 15 minutes off the bench with two rebounds, two steals, a steal, and was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Behr is averaging 8.8 PPG and Thomas is averaging 8.4.

Senior G Tevin Baker (Port Arthur, Texas) also scored nine and added three assists, three steals, and one rebound in 28 minutes. Baker is currently tied for sixth in the league at 3.8 assists per game. He has tallied at least two assists in five of the Gents' six games this season.

Junior G Ralph Johnson (White Castle, La.) played 27 minutes and scored three points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists, and had a pair of steals. He is averaging 8.8 PPG this season. Junior F Joseph Wiggins (Bossier City, La.) scored two points in 18 minutes off the bench, Sophomore G/F Dylan Hooter (Mandeville, La.) played 10 minutes and scored one, and sophomore G Braeden Board (Rayne, La.) scored two points in 12 minutes and added four rebounds, an assists, and a block. He is averaging 5.6 PPG this season along with 4.0 rebounds per game.

The Gents will face the ULM Warhawks in an exhibition contest on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Monroe and are back home this weekend as they face Texas College on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.
