
Gents To Face Texas College At Home On Saturday Afternoon

The Gents (4-2) enter Saturday's game on a three-game winning streak with two of the wins by 20 or more points. Centenary took a break from regular-season play on Wednesday as the Maroon and White fell 104-67 to the ULM Warhawks in an exhibition contest at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Texas College, a member of the Red River Athletic Conference and located in Tyler, is 3-3 on the season. This will be the first meeting between the Gents and Steers. Centenary is 2-0 at home in regular-season action this season and a stellar 25-7 in its last 32 home games over the last four seasons.
Junior G Jalen Behr (Athens, Ga.) led the Gents with a season-high 19 points on Wednesday, the fourth time that he has reached double figures this season. Behr played 31 minutes and shot 7-14 from the field and was 4-11 from three-point range. He grabbed six rebounds and had two assists. Behr leads the SCAC in three-point FG % (.526) and is tied for 12th in overall FG %.
Junior G Ralph Johnson (White Castle, La.) scored 15 points in 24 minutes on 5-10 shooting. Johnson made 2-3 of his three-point attempts and was 3-4 from the free throw line. He added two rebounds and an assist. Johnson is tied for seventh in the league in steals and 14th in assists. Senior G Tevin Baker (Port Arthur, Texas) scored eight points in 17 minutes with three rebounds. He made three of his five shots from the field and both of his free throw attempts. He dished out two assists and blocked a shot. Baker ranks fifth in steals and seventh in assists in the conference. He also ranks third in the SCAC in assist to turnover ratio.
Senior G AJ Hall (Thibodaux, La.) scored six in 27 minutes off the bench. He shot 2-8 from the floor overall, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and nailed a pair of treys. Hall was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, earning the honor for the first time in his career.
He led the Gents with a career-high 21 points in 27 minutes off the bench in last Tuesday's non-conference, 73-52, road win over Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Miss. He shot 8-10 overall and was a sizzling 5-6 from three-point range and had four rebounds and an assist. Hall ranks fourth in three-point FG % and 10th in three-point FGs made.
Sophomore G/F Dylan Hooter (Mandeville, La.) and junior F Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) each scored five points. Hooter played 20 minutes and shot 2-4 overall with one three-point basket. He grabbed one rebound and blocked one shot. Thomas played 17 minutes and recorded one assist and hit one three pointer. He is currently fourth in the conference in steals, seventh in free-throw percentage, and 19th in scoring.
Senior G Kile Mingo (Cypress, Texas) hit his only three-point attempt in two minutes. Junior F Joseph Wiggins (Bossier City, La.), sophomore G Braeden Board (Rayne, La.), and senior G Trent Washington (Gibson, La.) each scored two points.
Wiggins came off the bench and played 19 minutes, dished out a pair of assists, and grabbed one rebound. Board started and played 12 minutes, grabbed two rebounds, had two assists, and one steal. Washington added a pair of rebounds in five minutes of action.
The Gents shot 37.3 % overall from the floor and made 11-35 attempts from beyond the arc (31.4 %). Centenary attempted just seven free throws all night but made six. The Maroon and White nearly won the rebounding battle, grabbing 34 to 37 for ULM.
Senior F Jarrell Taylor (Leesville, La.) has been the Gents' offensive leader so far this season as he is averaging a team-best 15.2 PPG and 6.3 rebounds per game. Taylor has now reached double figures in five of the Gents' six regular-season games this season. He is currently sixth in the conference in scoring, 11th in field goal %, and tied for 12th in rebounding. Taylor also ranks in a tie for second in three-point FG % (.476) and is tied for seventh with Behr in 3's made.
Hall is averaging 9.0 PPG, Behr and Johnson are each averaging 8.7 PPG, Thomas 7.8, Board and Wiggins 4.7, and Mingo 3.8. Thomas is second on the team in rebounding at 4.5 and grabbed a season-best eight versus Millsaps on Nov. 30 at home. Board, Behr, Taylor, Thomas, and Wiggins are all ranked in the top 15 in the league in blocked shots. Taylor and Thomas are also both in the top 14 in rebounding, with Taylor 10th in defensive rebounding and Thomas tied for 14th in offensive rebounding.
Centenary enters Saturday's play as one of the top defensive teams in the conference and country, ranking first in the SCAC scoring defense allowing only 63.0 PPG, and the Gents are also second in FG % defense (.430) and third in three-point FG % defense (.306). The Gents are currently 34th in the country in scoring defense. The Maroon and White also rank first in turnover margin, second in steals, third in blocked shots, and fourth in assist to turnover ratio. Centenary is also an excellent free-throw shooting team, ranking third in the SCAC with a .722 % and also shoot it well from beyond the arc, ranking third in the league at .322 % with 46 made treys. Centenary also averages 39.5 defensive rebounds per game, tied for fourth in the conference.
