Lawrenceville, Ga. - Centenary junior F Seth Thomas has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, December 13 through Sunday, December 19. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 7)
Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) had a big weekend for the Gents, leading Centenary to a pair of key home SCAC wins, knocking off Dallas, 86-59, on Friday night and then handing Trinity just its second loss of the season, 87-78, on Sunday. He averaged 12.5 points per game on 45 percent shooting, including 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per night. In the win over the Crusaders, Thomas poured in 17 points, nearly matching his season-high of 19 in a home exhibition contest against LSU-Shreveport on Nov. 11.
This marks the second time in Thomas' career that he has earned the honor, after being named SCAC Player of the Week on Jan. 25 of last season as he led the Gents in a road sweep of Schreiner in conference play the weekend prior. He was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Jan. 26.
Thomas is averaging 7.8 PPG and 4.3 rebounds per game this season and is shooting 78.8 % from the free throw line. He scored eight points in 23 minutes off the bench on Sunday in the win over the Tigers. Thomas was 2-7 from the floor overall, 1-3 from beyond the arc, and 3-4 from the free throw line. He grabbed seven rebounds, had four steals, and recorded three assists.
Thomas is the second Centenary player to earn Player of the Week honors this season after senior G AJ Hall (Thibodaux, La.) earned the award for the first time in his career on Nov. 30.
The Gents will next be in action at home against Southwestern on Friday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. and Texas Lutheran on Saturday, Jan. 1 at 2 p.m.
