Thackerville, Okla. – The Centenary women's golf team is in fifth place after the opening round of the University of Dallas Crusader Invitational on Monday at the par-72 WinStar Golf Course.
The Ladies, playing in their final event of the fall season, shot a 96-over par 384, five shots better than Schreiner and Hardin-Simmons who are tied for sixth. UT Dallas is the tournament leader after round one action after the Comets shot a 31-over 319.
East Texas Baptist is in second place (+35 323), University of Dallas is third at 62-over 350, and St. Thomas is one shot behind Dallas at 63-over par 351. Howard Payne is currently eighth after shooting a 123-over par 411.
Freshman Kiley Smith (Fort Worth, Texas) shot the Ladies' lowest round on Monday as she carded a 15-over par 87 to sit in a tie for 13th place. Senior Lindsay Strohm (McKinney, Texas) is tied for 26th after shooting a 22-over par 94. Fellow senior Abigail Hayes (Plano, Texas) shot a 25-over par 97 and is tied for 30th. Sophomore Madison Wing (Shreveport, La.) shot a 34-over 106 and is tied for 36th and freshman Nia Stewart (Ellenwood, Ga.) shot an 87-over 159 and is in 45th place.
Karen Alvarez of UT Dallas is the individual leader after round one after she shot a 1-under par 71. Emma Luna of St. Thomas is in second place after shooting a 2-over par 74. The final round begins on Tuesday morning.
