Ladies Fifth After Round One Of Pinecrest Invitational

Longview, Texas - The Centenary women's golf team is fifth after round one of the 2022 Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University at the Pinecrest Country Club.

The Ladies, playing in their first tournament this spring at the par-72, 5,716-yard PCC, shot an 82-over par 298 on Monday led by an 18-over par 90 from freshman Kiley Smith (Fort Worth, Texas) as she is currently in 15th place.

Round two action was suspended at 7 p.m. as severe weather was entering the area. Play is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and then the final round for both the men and women is slated for a 9:30 a.m. tee time.

Centenary is joined in the event by the host YellowJackets and 13 other schools - East Texas Baptist University, Hendrix College, Schreiner University, Tyler Junior College, Jacksonville College, Murray State, University of Houston-Victoria, Central College, Dallas Christian College, Concordia University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Louisiana Christian University, and McMurry University.

Senior Abigail Hayes (Plano, Texas) shot a 25-over 97 on Monday and sits in 21st place. Sophomore Madison Wing (Shreveport, La.) shot a 111 and is tied for 25th and senior Lindsay Strohm (McKinney, Texas) is in 29th place after posting a 121.

The Ladies are back in action for the first time since recording a seventh-place finish in the University of Dallas Crusader Invitational back in October in Thackerville, Okla. The Ladies shot a final-round 113-over par 401 after shooting a 96-over par 384 in the opening round.

Smith finished 17th at the event as she aims for her second-straight top -20 finish. Hayes is in position for her ninth top-25 career finish and had done so in six of her last seven tournaments. She finished in the top 25 in all five tournaments that she played in last season. 

Mary Hardin-Baylor is the team leader after Monday's first round. The Crusaders shot a 33-over par 321 to hold a 31-shot lead over second-place East Texas Baptist (+64 – 352). Concordia is third (+ 66 – 354), and the host YellowJackets are fourth at +72 – 360. Mary Hardin-Baylor has the top four individuals as Sydney McConnell leads after shooting a 6-over 78. Her teammate Leah Tyner is one shot behind at 7-over 79 and Avery Hill and Leah Self are tied for third place at 10-over par 82.

The Ladies will next be in action on March 21-22 as they host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City.
