Ladies Fourth After One Round At Hal Sutton Invitational

Bossier City, La. - The Centenary golf teams completed day one of the Hal Sutton Invitational, their annual home tournament, on Monday with the Gents in third place and the Ladies in fourth at The Golf Club at Stonebridge.

The men's teams were able to complete 27 holes and the women 18 holes as a significant threat of severe weather remains a possibility for Tuesday, thus putting the remainder of the tournament in question. Tournament officials will meet in the morning and hope for a mid-morning start. The women would play their final 18 holes while the men's teams would hope to play their remaining 27 holes.

The men's field includes the Gents, Augustana College (Illinois), Belhaven University, Blinn Junior College, Jacksonville College, Louisiana Christian University, Millsaps College, Murray State College (Oklahoma), and Tyler Junior College. The women's field includes the Ladies, Millsaps, Mississippi College, Murray State, and Tyler. The Gents finished second in last season's Hal Sutton while the Ladies placed sixth.

The Gents shot a 24-over par 312 total on Monday while the Ladies shot a 112-over par 400. Blinn College is the current men's leader after shooting a 21-over par 309 and Tyler is the women's leader at 46-over 334. Blinn's "B" team is second on the men's side one shot behind its "A" team at 22-over 310 and Mississippi College is second on the women's side at 48-over 336, just two shots off the lead.

Centenary sophomore Drew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) and junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) each shot the Gents' lowest rounds on Monday, 77 (+5), and are tied for ninth place. Sophomore Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) shot a 6-over 78 and is tied for 12th. Junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) is tied for 21st after carding an 8-over 80, and senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) is 46th after shooting a 90. Freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) shot a 29-over par 101 playing as an individual and senior Mitchell Lulich (New Orleans, La.) is also playing as an individual and shot a 56-over 128.

On the women's side, freshman Kiley Smith (Fort Worth, Texas) led the way for the Ladies with a 23-over par 95 and is 17th, senior Abigail Hayes (Plano, Texas) is 18th after shooting a 26-over par 98, sophomore Madison Wing (Shreveport, La.) is 21st after posting a 30-over par 102 and senior Lindsay Strohm (McKinney, Texas) shot a 33-over par 105 and is in 24th place.

Belhaven's Luke Couch, Blinn's "B" team member Sam Swell, and Murray State's Sam JD Lankford are all tied atop the men's individual leaderboard at 2-over par 74. Tyler has the top three individuals after one round with Lucy Holbrough's 8-over 80 setting the pace, two shots ahead of her teammates Madison Brown and Taylor-Rose Hubbard (10-over 82).
