
Ladies Set For Home Opener On Tuesday

The Ladies (0-3) opened their season this past weekend in the Mary Hardin-Baylor Tournament in Belton, Texas and fell to Howard Payne and the host Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday and Hendrix College on Saturday. Centenary lost a tough season opener, 3-2, to Howard Payne and was then swept in the matches by MHB and Hendrix.
The Eagles (2-3) went 2-2 in the Aggie Classic last month in Goodwell, OKla. to begin their season and then fell 3-2 at Wiley College on Aug. 27 in their most recent action. Centenary and Texas A&M-Texarkana will meet for the first time on Tuesday.
Senior S/RS Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) returned to the court this past weekend for the Ladies after missing the entire 2021 season due to an injury. The sensational senior picked up where she left off throughout her superb career as she played in all three of Centenary's matches (8 sets) and totaled 43 assists, 23 digs, five aces, and three kills. She currently ranks in the top 10 in Centenary program history in career hitting percentage, assists, assists per set, aces, and digs per set.
Senior DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) had a superb opening weekend for the Ladies as she totaled 70 digs, eight assists, five aces, and one kill in three matches (11 sets). Proctor recorded 31 digs in the Ladies' season opener versus Howard Payne on Sept. 2, one shy of her single-game career high. She then had 19 versus Mary Hardin-Baylor and 20 versus Hendrix in her final two matches of the weekend and has now has topped 20 digs in a match in her career 11 times.
Senior MB Caroline Richmond (Marquez, Texas) had 27 kills, 25 digs, and a pair of assists last weekend, senior MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) posted 22 kills, 10 digs, four aces, and two assists, and sophomore RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) recorded 16 kills, 13 digs, and three assists.
Tuesday's match is the first of 10 scheduled matches at the Gold Dome this season, where the Maroon and White were an impressive 9-2 last season.
Centenary hits the road again on Thursday as the Ladies will face the Tougaloo College Bulldogs in a non-conference match set for 6 p.m. in Tougaloo, Miss.
