Tougaloo, Miss. - The Centenary volleyball registered a 3-1 victory on Thursday evening over the Tougaloo College Bulldogs in a non-conference contest to extend its winning streak to two games.
The Ladies improved to 2-3 overall following their 3-1 victory over Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Tuesday in their home opener. Tougaloo dropped to 0-4 on the season with the loss.
Centenary won the first set 25-22 and followed that with a 25-23 win in set two. The Bulldogs staved off elimination with a 27-25 win in set three but the Maroon and White closed out the match with a dominating 25-14 win in set four. The Ladies finished the match with 67 digs, 36 kills, 30 assists, and seven aces. Tougaloo recorded 63 digs, 33 kills, 30 assists, and 10 aces.
Sophomore OH/DS Kiara Liedy (Sugar Land, Texas) had a game-high 17 digs and added two assists, two aces, and a kill. Freshman S Meadow Smith (Mansfield, Texas) turned in an impressive performance with a game-high 28 assists and added 12 digs and had two aces.
Freshman OH Jaeda Moreno (Weslaco, Texas) had 13 digs, three kills, and an ace and sophomore MB Elizabeth Canady (League City, Texas) posted a team-best 10 kills with six digs. Senior DS Mariah Martinez (San Antonio, Texas) added 14 digs, two aces, and a kill.
Centenary now heads to Jackson, Miss. this weekend for the Millsaps Volleyball Invitational. The Ladies will face the host Majors on Friday at 6 p.m. and will play two more matches on Saturday as they face Concordia (Texas) at 1 p.m. and then complete the tournament with a match versus Belhaven University at 5 p.m. All matches will be held on the Millsaps campus inside the Hangar Dome.
