San Antonio, Texas- The Centenary softball team fell 5-4 in the rubber game of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series versus the Trinity University Tigers on Sunday at the Trinity Softball Field.

The Ladies (7-18, 3-6 SCAC) and Tigers (7-21, 4-5 SCAC) split a doubleheader on Saturday as the Ladies won game one by a score of 7-6 and fell 6-5 in game two.

Freshman Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) started in the circle for the Ladies and was given a 2-0 lead but she allowed five of the six batters she faced to reach base and was pulled for freshman Abigail Hodgson (Georgetown, Texas). Crow was charged with the loss to fall to 2-2 on the season as she allowed three runs, all earned, and three hits in 0.1 innings with two walks and no strikeouts.

Hodgson went the final 5.2 innings and pitched well, allowing just two unearned runs and five hits with a walk and no K's. She faced 23 batters, hitting one, and threw 89 pitches (48 strikes). Trinity starter Brooke Porter (2-2) got the win as she went 5.1 innings and allowed four runs, all earned, and eight hits with two walks and no K's. She faced 26 batters and threw 82 pitches – 49 for strikes. Bella Gutierrez worked the final 1.2 innings and picked up the save. She faced four batters and threw 16 pitches (11 strikes).

The Ladies scored twice in their first at-bat of the game as senior LF Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) doubled with two outs and Porter issues back-to back walks to sophomore 3B Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and junior 1B Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) which loaded the bases. Senior CF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) came through with a clutch two-run single to left center to score Rivero and Patridge. Freshman C Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) then grounded out to end the half inning.

DP Dawson Dabboussi got the Tigers on the board in the bottom half with an RBI single, then the Tigers pulled a double steal of second and home for their second run, and 1B Jordyn Williams then delivered an RBI single for a 3-2 lead. Crow walked RF Carsyn Lee to put runners at first and second with only one out and Hodson entered. She escaped any further trouble by getting 3B Peyton Bowser to hit into an inning-ending double play.

Two scoreless innings followed until the Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the fourth which proved to be the final runs scored by either team for the remainder of the game. LF Jordan Arce singled with two outs and scored when 2B Alexa Saucedo hit a ball to Rivero that she threw away for an error. C Jessie Lloyd then singled through the right side to make it 5-3. Hodgson walked and hit the next two batters to load the bases as Trinity was on the verge of opening the game up. But, she dug in and got SS Mariana Delaluna to pop out to second to leave the bases full and end the inning.

Centenary scratched back with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Stout singled up the middle with one out and Thrasher doubled to left center to score Stout. Hodgson then helped herself with an RBI single to cut the Ladies' deficit to 5-4. Gutierrez came in for Porter and got sophomore SS Brooke Sandefur (Denham Springs, La.) to ground into an inning-ending double play. Centenary had the top of the lineup due up in the seventh but Gutierrez retired junior RF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.), freshman 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.), and Patridge in order to end the game.

Patridge had three of the Ladies' eight hits, two of which were doubles, and Lloyd and Dabboussi combined to go 4-6 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base for the Tigers. Stout was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Cox, Hodgson, and Thrasher were a combined 3-10 with two RBI and a run scored. Rivero was 0-1 with a walk and a run scored and Dominguez drew a walk.

Centenary walked twice, did not strike out, made one error, and left five on base. Trinity also had eight hits, did not strike out, walked three times, played error-free ball, and left six on base.

Centenary returns to action on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader at Howard Payne University (1/3 p.m.) in Brownwood, Texas.
