Shreveport– The Centenary softball team pounded the Southwestern University Pirates 11-0 on Friday night to open a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with a convincing run-rule win in five innings at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (16-21, 11-8 SCAC) and The Pirates (19-19, 12-7 SCAC) will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Sunday at Noon and 2 p.m. Inclement weather is expected in the area on Saturday, thus the reason the final two games were moved back a day. The Ladies will recognize their two seniors - senior LF/SS Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) and senior CF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) following the second game on Sunday.

Centenary scored single runs in the first and second innings and then exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth, marking the most runs scored in a single inning by the Ladies all season. Their previous high was eight in the first inning of an 18-2 victory over Austin College on April 16. The shutout was Centenary's fourth of the season and its 10 hits marks the 15th game this season with 10+ hits.

Senior LF Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) drove in the Ladies' first run of the game with an RBI single in the first and she did the same an inning later to give the Maroon and White a 2-0 lead. Junior RF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) had an RBI triple to start the offensive eruption in the fourth inning and freshman 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) singled home Cox later in the inning for a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore SS Brooke Sandefur (Denham Springs, La.) reached on an error to bring home the Ladies' seventh run, Cox had an RBI single, Stokes delivered a two-RBI single, and Patridge capped the scoring with an RBI single for the 11-0 lead.

The Ladies finished with 12 hits, did not commit an error, walked three times, struck out just three times, and left eight on base. Sophomore P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) went the distance for the Ladies in the circle and limited the Pirates to just five hits in her five innings of work. She walked two and struck out one, facing 21 batters and throwing 77 pitches (49 strikes). Scarbrock (8-9) tossed her 10th complete game of the season.

Madison Vela (9-10) started and took the loss for the Pirates as she allowed five runs, two earned, on eight hits in three innings with a BB and two K's. She faced 20 batters and threw 65 pitches – 42 strikes. Mattigan Aga relieved her and faced 10 batters and was charged with six runs, one earned, and four hits in 2/3 of an inning with a pair of walks. Ryen Browling was the third and final pitcher of the game for the Pirates as she struck out Rivero to end the fourth inning.

Stokes went 4-4 with three RBI and a run scored, and Cox and Patridge each finished with three hits.
