Ladies Earn Scoreless Tie At Belhaven On Tuesday

Jackson, Miss. - The Centenary women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 0-0 tie with the Belhaven University Blazers in a non-conference contest on Tuesday at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.

The Ladies (0-4-1) were in search of their first win of the season and nearly did so on Tuesday versus the Blazers (2-1-2). Centenary responded nicely after a pair of disappointing losses at home last weekend, 3-1 to Sul Ross State on Sept. 9 and then 4-1 to Howard Payne on Sunday.

Centenary played a pair of goalkeepers on Tuesday as sophomore GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) started and played the first half and junior Karlie Delhommer (St. Amant, La.) relieved her and played the entire second half. Ersoff recorded one save while Delhommer picked up four. Julianne Wilson played all 90 minutes for the Blazers and made two saves.

Belhaven finished with a 12-5 advantage in shots and took two corner kicks to just one for Centenary. The teams combined for 15 fouls and the Blazers received the lone yellow card issued in the match.

Centenary returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend as the Maroon and White travel to Houston for a rematch with the University of St. Thomas Celts on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The Ladies were edged 2-1 by the Celts back on Sept. 3 at home.
