Lacrosse Falls in Season Opener to Pfeiffer University on Road

Misenheimer, N.C. – The Centenary lacrosse team fell in its season opener on Saturday, 21-2, to the Pfeiffer University Falcons in a non-conference match at Lefko Field.

The teams, each playing their first game of the season, played in a cold downpour making conditions difficult. The Gents drop to 0-1 in the season while the Falcons start the season 1-0. Centenary was playing its first game since March 7, 2020 when they played fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member Southwestern at home after their season was shortened due to COVID-19.

The Falcons took a 14-1 lead at the half, scoring the game's first 13 goals. Centenary true freshman Jacob Miller (Liberty Hills, Texas) scored his first-career goal with just 1:36 remaining before the half off an assist from sophomore Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) for a man-up goal. Another Gents freshman, Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.), scored the game's final goal as he found the net at the 3:09 mark of the second half for an unassisted goal and the first of his career.

Quinn Becraft led the way for the Falcons with eight goals and an assist while Jared Nelson recorded eight assists and a pair of scores.  John Allen had three goals and an assist as 10 Falcons scored on the afternoon. Pfeiffer finished with 57 total shots to 15 for the Gents. Cook led the way with six shots for Centenary, sophomore Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) had four, and Comi took three. Cook, Miller, and Temple each had two or more shots on goal. Centenary goalkeeper Thomas Siskron (Shreveport) played all 60 minutes and notched 18 saves. The Falcons used four different goalies with starter Matt Stocks picking up the win.

Centenary next faces the Averett University Cougars on Monday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. in Danville, Va. The Gents will play all SCAC opponents twice this season and will play two more out of conference matches against Hendrix College on the road on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. and at Huntingdon College on March 12 at 7 p.m.

Centenary's home opener is set for Sunday, Feb. 21 versus Southwestern in a match set for 1 p.m. at Mayo Field. The Gents welcome Dallas for a 1 p.m. match on March 7 and then close their home schedule versus Hendrix on March 18 at 7 p.m.
