Men's Soccer Falls to St. Thomas on Road, 1-0, on Saturday

Houston, Texas - The Centenary men's soccer team fell to the St. Thomas Celts by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at the Houston Sports Park.

The Gents (2-2-1, 2-1 SCAC) were playing their first road match of the season and lost for the first time this season in conference play. The Celts improved to 3-1-2 with Saturday's win.

St. Thomas forward Ian Alvarez scored in the 28th minute in the first half off an assists from Gabe Salako for a 1-0 lead that proved to be the final margin. Centenary was limited to just eight total shots on the game while St. Thomas took 10.

Gents' junior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) played all 90 minutes and made five saves and now has an impressive 234 in his career to rank second all-time in program history in the division III (2011-present) era. Borchalli has 19 saves this season and entered Saturday with the third-most in the league. St. Thomas keeper Rodrigo Lazo recorded three saves in his 90 minutes to pick up the win.

The Gents remain on the road as they play at Colorado College (March 27) and Southwestern on April 3. Centenary faces Schreiner on April 10 for Senior Day in their home finale and then finish the regular season at Texas Lutheran on April 17. Centenary then will serve as host for the 2021 SCAC Men's Soccer Championship on April 23 and 25 at Mayo Field.
