
Men's Soccer Makes SCAC Championship Home Debut On Friday Versus Colorado College
The Centenary men's soccer team will play its first home Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship match in program history in the division III era on Friday as the No. 6 seed Gents, serving as the host for the event this weekend, will face the No. 3 seed Colorado College Tigers in a quarterfinal match of the 2021 edition of the tournament set for 11:30 a.m. at Mayo Field.
Shreveport- The Centenary men's soccer team will play its first home Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship match in program history in the division III era on Friday as the No. 6 seed Gents, serving as the host for the event this weekend, will face the No. 3 seed Colorado College Tigers in a quarterfinal match of the 200-21 edition of the tournament set for 11:30 a.m. at Mayo Field.
The championship will feature six teams and five games with a pair of quarterfinals on Friday, two semifinal matches on Saturday and then the championship match. The semifinals are set for Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. with Sunday's championship scheduled for 1 p.m.

The match between the Tigers (5-3-1, 5-2-1 SCAC) and Gents (3-5-1, 3-4 SCAC) is the second scheduled match of the day as it follows a 9 a.m. match featuring #4 seed Texas Lutheran (5-3, 5-3 SCAC) versus #5 seed St. Thomas (4-2-3, 4-2-2 SCAC). #1 seed Trinity (6-0-1, 6-0-1 SCAC) and #2 seed Southwestern (4-0-3, 4-0-3 SCAC) earned byes into Saturday's semifinals. Trinity will face the TLU-St. Thomas winner at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Southwestern meets the Colorado College-Centenary winner on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Centenary is making just its second appearance in the championship since joining the conference prior to the 2012 season. The Gents fell 1-0 to Southwestern in the 2012 championship in San Antonio, Texas. The Gents and Tigers are meeting for the second time this season as the Tigers recorded a 2-0 victory at home back on March 27. CC leads the all-time series 12-1 but the Gents defeated the Tigers, 2-0, in the most recent match at Mayo Field on Oct. 6, 2019.
The Gents dropped a 3-0 decision to Texas Lutheran last Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams but in their most recent home match on April 10, the Maroon and White picked up a key win on Senior Day, 2-0 over Schreiner. Centenary was playing at home for the first time in nearly a month and blanked the Mountaineers to improve to 3-1-1 at Mayo Field this season and is now an impressive 10-4-1 in its last 15 home matches. The Gents posted their second shutout of the season, both coming at home, after previously blanking Dallas 1-0 on March 7. The Maroon and White have now recorded seven shutouts at home over the last two seasons.
The Tigers and Gents enter Friday's match ranked second and third respectively in the conference in shots with CC taking 141 shots this season and the Gents 120, as both average 15 per game. The Tigers rank first in points and second in goals while the Gents rank sixth in both categories. CC is also first in assists with the Gents sixth.
Seven players rank in the top 10 in the conference in goals as Tigers' sophomore MF Sajjan Singh is currently second with five and three of his teammates are tied for ninth place with two. Centenary sophomore MF Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas) is in a tie for sixth with the Tigers' Miles Montgomery as each have scored three goals. Fellow sophomore MF Andres Bautista (Houston, Texas) is tied with the trio of Tigers in ninth place with a pair of goals. Petreas is ninth in the league in points (7) while Bautista is tied for 10th with six. Four Tigers are also ranked in the top 10.
Bautista is tied for second in the league with 24 shots with Montgomery and three Tigers are also ranked in the top 10. Montgomery is the conference leader in assists with six and Bautista is in a tie for eighth place with two. Petreas, Bautista, and junior D Diego Hernandez (Carrollton, Texas) are all tied for fourth in the conference with one game-winning goal each.
Gents' junior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) ranks fifth in the league in goals against average (1.47), seventh in save percentage (.727), third in saves (32), fifth in saves per game (4.00), and is tied for first with two shutouts. Borchalli was named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week on April 12 following the Gents' 2-0 win over Schreiner, recording the seventh shutout of his career.
The leader of the Gents' stingy defense has a stellar 249 saves in his career and was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC last season. He is the third Gent to be named a SCAC Player of the Week this season after Bautista and Petreas each earned the honor on the offensive side of the ball last month.
