Softball To Face Jarvis Christian In Home Doubleheader On Saturday

Shreveport - The Centenary softball team will welcome Jarvis Christian College to town on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader at the Centenary Softball Complex with games set for 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.

The Ladies (2-3) are eager to get back on the field after weather impacted their schedule this week and weekend and necessitated multiple changes. Centenary was scheduled to face Hendrix on Thursday in a doubleheader in Conway, Ark. but those games have been postponed. The Ladies were then scheduled to be in Baton Rouge this weekend for a tournament at Southern University along with Jarvis Christian, but weather has cancelled the event. Jarvis Christian (5-4) enters Saturday's play winners of two straight after the Bulldogs swept the University of the Ozarks in a doubleheader on Feb. 15.

The Ladies split a non-conference doubleheader with the Pacific University Boxers last Saturday at home, winning game one by a score of 6-5 and dropping a tough game two, 8-4.

Centenary was outhit 11-4 in game one but drew 12 walks and scored on an error. Freshman shortstop Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, NV) went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Ladies' offense. Junior catcher Erin Lewis (Leesville, La.) had three walks, one hit, and an RBI and center fielder Haley Campbell (Erath, La.) had a pair of walks, an RBI, and two runs scored. Campbell went 3-8 with two doubles last weekend.

Starting pitcher Kirstyn Gomez (Deer Park, Texas) pitched a complete game and picked up the win as she allowed five runs (four earned) and 11 hits in her seven innings of work with one walk and one strikeout to improve to 1-1 on the season. Patridge, Broussard, Mayo, Stout, and sophomore second baseman Jaymee Wilkinson (Brazoria, Texas) each collected two hits apiece in game two.

The Ladies will be on the road next Tuesday, Feb. 25 for a non-conference doubleheader at the Mississippi University for Women with games set for 2 and 4 p.m. Centenary opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at home on March 7 with a doubleheader against the University of Dallas with games scheduled for Noon and 2 p.m. and game three set for Noon on Sunday, March 8.
