Shreveport - The Centenary softball team dropped a tough, 6-4, decision in eight innings on Sunday in the finale of a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series against the University of Dallas Crusaders at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (6-6, 2-1 SCAC) had clinched the series with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, winning both games by one run each on a walk-off RBI single by freshman Taylor Mayo (Shreveport) in game one and a Mayo sacrifice fly in game two.

Centenary jumped out early, 2-0, after an inning on RBI singles from Shortstop Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, NV) and Freshman Zoe Lanier (Hughes Springs, Texas). Dallas took a 3-2 lead after four and then the Ladies scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Crusaders tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh and after the Ladies could not score in the bottom half the game went to extra innings.

Dallas (5-11, 1-5 SCAC) wasted no time in the top of the eighth as the Crusaders started the inning with a single and double to place runners at second and third with no outs. Left fielder Mackenzie Tano then drove both runners in for a 6-4 lead and the eventual winning runs.

Six Dallas players collected at least two hits and campo and Tano had two RBI each. Senior center fielder Haley Campbell (Erath, La.) went 3-4 with two runs scored and Patridge, junior catcher Erin Lewis (Leesville, La.), and freshman Zoe Lanier (Hughes Springs, Texas) each had RBI.

Lanier started and went 3.1 innings and allowed three runs, all earned, on six hits with three walks and one strikeout. Sophomore Kirstyn Gomez (Deer Park, Texas) relieved Lanier and suffered the loss as she pitched the final 4.2 innings and allowed three runs, all earned, and seven hits. She did not walk or strike out a batter to fall to 2-3 on the season.

Maggie Watts started for the Crusaders and was the first of three pitchers on the day. She pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two runs, both earned and four hits with no walks and one strikeout. Lindsay Devlin entered after Watts and pitched two third of an inning and allowed one run, which was earned, on one hit with one strikeout. Karina Campo picked up the win as she went the final 3.2 innings and allowed one run, which was earned, on three hits and no walks and two strikeouts.

The Ladies will hit the road to continue SCAC play this weekend versus Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 at Noon and 2 p.m. and will finish off the weekend series with a Noon game on Sunday, March 15.
