Houston- The Centenary football team returns to action for the first time in nearly a month on Monday night as the Gents will face the North American University Stallions at Stafford High School with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

The Gents (3-0) were scheduled to play the Haywood Crusaders at home on Sept. 30 but the game was cancelled, so the Maroon and White held a recent intrasquad scrimmage to stay in rhythm. Centenary hammered John Melvin 57-0 on Sept. 16 in its most recent action preceded by a 79-6 victory at home against Louisiana Community Christian on Sept. 9. Centenary opened the season with a 34-27 victory over the Mary Hardin-Baylor JV squad on Sept. 4 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Stallions are 1-4 this season.

Centenary's success has been highlighted by its explosive offense but the Gent defense has also been stout, allowing just six points over the last two games and creating three turnovers in the last outing. Freshman DB Chris Davis (Harrisville, Miss.) had a huge night defensively against John Melvin as he intercepted three passes and returned two for scores – one for 35 yards in the second quarter and the other for 43 yards in the third period.

"We are so excited to play after a two-week layoff," said Centenary head coach Byron Dawson.

"Monday night in Houston will be a great challenge for my team. North American is an established NAIA program in the Greater Houston area. We understand that progress is a process and our goals remain the same - we must master the fundamentals and play as a team."

Centenary's home game against TWA College on Wednesday, Oct. 18, originally scheduled to be played at Evangel Christian Academy, will now be played on campus at Mayo Field and will kick off at 6 p.m.

The Gents will face John Melvin again, on Saturday, Oct. 14 in Crowley, La. at 6 p.m.
