Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: October 22 Edition

Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: October 22 Edition

Hey Ladies Gymnastics fans! It's sophomore Kennedy Stephens here with this week's Gym Talk.

It was a long, but great, week for the Ladies. We had to get up dark and early to get Covid tested on Tuesday. (Good news! We all tested negative) Followed by two more Dark and Early workouts on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday evening we had a team meeting where we talked about our 2021 Core Covenants (passion, relentlessness, and dedication), what they mean to us, and what they look like in and outside of the gym.

The Ladies really kicked it in gear on Friday. Everyone has been working so hard in the gym. From getting some new skills to perfecting old ones. We finished off a great day by pumping some iron in the FIT.

It might be hard to believe, but we had an even better practice on Saturday. Coach Jackie even said it was our best practice of the year! We started the night off with a friendly uppers vs lowers blind volleyball game – one team definitely had the "upper" hand over the other;>) We have been building up slow and steady since our return to gymnastics and a bunch of the Ladies did double backs off the hard floor for the first time this fall. Our progressions have been working though, as we add our bigger skills in it's like we haven't missed a beat, everyone looks strong and fit!

Shoutout to Kendall Sanders for doing doubles for the first time since her wrist surgery. We had some Ladies move their series up to the high beam. Shout out to Rose for getting a beautiful new series. We also had some Ladies throwing and catching release moves left and right on bars. Some of them for the first time.

I also want to give a big shout out to freshman, Izzie Plaza. Although she is injured and cannot do gymnastics right now, she has been a great cheerleader. She brings so much energy and encouragement to the gym!

To end the week, Sunday's theme was Twin Day. So, we all showed up matching with one of our teammates. After fun games and team building, we put in some hard work and ended the week on a positive note.

I am so proud of this team and all the hard work we have been putting in. The Ladies are gearing up and are so excited for this upcoming meet season!

See ya next time,

Kennedy Stephens
