Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: March 25 Edition

Hey Ladies Gymnastics fans!

It's sophomore Kennedy Stephens back again with this week's Gym Talk.

After a great home meet and senior night, your Ladies were super excited to get back in the gym and get ready for the MIC's! We started off the week with a covid test to make sure everyone was safe to travel. We then got up dark and early Wednesday morning to travel to Normal, Illinois. It was quite an adventure; we spent about 3 ½ hours in a van getting to the Dallas airport, 2+ hours in the airport, 1 ½ hours on a plane flying to Chicago, and then another 2 hours on a charter bus to arrive at our destination in Normal, IL! Totaling a 9+-hour travel day.

Thursday was a really fun day for the Ladies. We got to test out the meet equipment with a practice day at the Illinois State arena. The Ladies were looking strong and feeling great. After practice we had some time to relax a little bit and get some homework done before dressing up and having our own little celebration with a team "banquet". Because of covid, we weren't allowed to have a conference banquet with all of the teams like we usually do, so the Ladies decided they would like to have our own mini banquet to celebrate being at the conference championships and everything we've had to go through to get here. Everyone had a great time dressing up, eating good food, and sharing fun memories.

Friday was meet day, and although things didn't go exactly as planned, it was still exciting to be out there on the competition floor. There were some highs and lows, but it was a great opportunity for us as a team to learn, grow, and come back stronger next time. Some high points of the night would include Sierra Ponder being honored with the MIC Senior Athlete of the Year award. This award goes out to a senior athlete that has been impactful on their team, and SiSi has certainly been that. Two of our team members earned second team all-conference too. Kendall Huff on vault with a career high of 9.8, and Kendall Sanders on Floor with sassy 9.7 and in the all-around with an impressive 38.65.

We are anxious to get back in the gym to fix some mistakes, focus on the details, and prepare for our last meet of the season.  Next stop: Nationals!

See ya next time,

Kennedy Stephens
