Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: November 12 Edition

Hey Centenary Gymnastics Fans! It's Sophomore Taylor Wilson here with this week's Gym Talk!

The Ladies pushed hard in the gym this week with lots of energy and accomplishments! We are heading into our final week of the semester before our finals begin. We will complete our final exams before we head home for our Thanksgiving break.  It seems a bit weird to be finishing up our semester so early, but we are really looking forward to going home and seeing our families.

We know our time is running short, so there is definitely a sense of urgency as we continue to build our routines to be ready for our season opener on January 10th!  With a slow start at the beginning of the semester (re-socialization and getting back to sport), and then a two week hold for quarantining, we still have a lot of work to do. But a challenge has never stopped your Ladies before, and it won't this time!

We started the week off Tuesday with vault, bars, and beam. Tuesday's our practices are split, so we have more individual time to do extra things.  Lacey Wedge tried a beautiful new vault: front handspring front pike! The Ladies worked on perfecting their in-bar releases with drills as well as series on beam.

Wednesday is time to rise and grind!  It was another dark and early practice; with lots of drills and skill development. We like to use our Wednesday morning practice to take time to get back to basics and work on the minute details that will help us raise our scores.

On Thursday, The Ladies had an amazing 6am workout at Jill's. The work was hard with multiple total body pods. We also had our last team building meeting with Molly Grisham. Molly taught us about the power of self-care. She taught us that self-care isn't selfish, it is self-preserving and refuels us rather than takes from us. Real self-care is hard but it is worth it!

Shoutout to Lauryn Stiff and Si-Si Ponder for moving their release moves to the real bar and catching them on Friday! We continued to work on our routines and focus on building our scoring potential.  Furthermore, the Ladies had an amazing afternoon workout on a beautiful day, we decided to take our condition outside and did some running up Rutherford St. hill and other conditioning at the round-about outside of Mickle.

Saturday the Ladies put together full bar and floor routines for the first time! Keep it up! Another shoutout goes to Izzie for getting into the swing of things again on bars.

At the end of the week, Sunday's theme was tacky day. Everyone showed up and showed out in their craziest mis-matched outfits. Our Juniors also performed their skit featuring a dance they learned from The Pink Windmill Kids.

Keep your grip strong and continue to push through these last two weeks with finals! We can do it!

Deuces,

Tay-Dub (W)
