Men's Basketball Cruises Past Millsaps In Home Opener, 84-51

Shreveport- The Centenary men's basketball opened its 2019-20 home schedule with a dominating 84-51 victory over the Millsaps Majors on Tuesday night at a spirited Gold Dome. 

The Gents (1-1) received 25 points from star senior guard and Shreveport native Cedric Harris and 22 from sophomore forward Ty Prince (Thorndale, Texas). Centenary held a slim 31-28 lead at halftime but erupted for 53 points in the final 20 minutes to cruise to the victory in its home opener. Prince added 18 rebounds, 17 coming on the defensive end, in 35 minutes of action. Harris joined the 1,000-point club on Tuesday as the former C.E. Byrd standout shot 10-17 from the field and 4-9 from three-point range. 

Centenary received 25 points off the bench led by eight from sophomore forward Neil Hawkins (Titusville, Fla.). The Gents shot 47.8 percent from the field for the game and 8-21 from three-point range. Centenary also connected on 12 of 17 free throws as across the baord their offense was sizzling on Tuesday, especially in the second half. 

The Gents outrebounded the Majors 45-40 and held them to just 28.6 % shooting (16-56) from the floor, 6-22 from three-point range, and 13-25 from the free-throw line. The Maroon and White also forced Millsaps into 21 turnovers. 

Centenary plays its next four games on the road following Tuesday's contest. The Gents face Howard Payne on Nov. 29, Hardin-Simmons on Nov. 30, LeTourneau on Dec. 3, and ETBU on Dec. 9.

Centenary's next home game will be Saturday, Dec. 14 versus Louisiana College at 3 p.m.
