Men's Basketball Faces Colorado College On Road In SCAC Play

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Centenary men's basketball team will face the Colorado College Tigers in a road Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday at 6:30 p.m. central (5:30 p.m. local time) inside Reid Arena.

Centenary finishes the weekend road trip with another conference game on Saturday at Johnson and Wales at 6 p.m. central (5 p.m. local time). Live stats and live video stream are available for both games this weekend via www.gocentenary.com.

The Gents (8-8, 5-4 SCAC) and Tigers (4-11, 2-7 SCAC) are meeting for the second time this season after Centenary defeated the Tigers, 83-75, at home in overtime on Dec. 29. Centenary has lost four of its last five games and two straight after winning five in a row from Dec. 14-30. Despite their recent struggles, the Gents currently sit in a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings with Austin College and Dallas. Colorado College has lost three of its last four games including an 85-82 loss at Trinity on Saturday in its most recent game and is only ahead of Johnson and Wales in the standings.

Centenary is one of the top teams statistically in the SCAC through the first half of the conference schedule. The Gents rank fourth in scoring offense averaging 76.5 points per game and second in rebounding offense (40.6 per game) and are also in the top five in assists, blocked shots, defensive rebounds, scoring defense, field goal percentage, and field goal percentage defense.

The Maroon and White have managed to stay near the top of the conference standings despite missing the league's top scorer, sophomore forward Ty Prince (Thorndale, Texas) for the last three games. Prince still leads the conference in scoring this season averaging 21.2 points per game.

Senior guard Cedric Harris (Shreveport) has been a big reason why the Gents have maintained their position in the upper half of the standings despite the absence of Prince. Harris once again led the Maroon and White in scoring in their last game, as he poured in 23 points in 35 minutes on Saturday at St. Thomas, as he has reached double figures in all 16 Centenary games this season. He added nine rebounds as he just missed his sixth double-double of the season as he made eight of 24 shots from the field and connected on six of 14 three-point attempts. He topped the 20-point mark for the 10th time this season.

Harris, who was named the SCAC Player of the Week earlier this month for the second time this season, has scored a whopping 80 points and grabbed 36 rebounds in the Gents' last three games.

Harris scored a game-high and season-best 32 points in 38 minutes at home against Texas Lutheran on Jan. 12 as he shot 10-27 from the field and made six of 15 three-point shots. He scored 25 points with 17 rebounds in 31 minutes of Centenary's 84-74 win over Southwestern on Jan. 10. Harris is the second-leading scorer in the SCAC at 19.8 points per game and also ranks fourth in the conference in rebounding (8.4 rebounds per game) and has made the most three pointers in the conference (66).

The Gents return home next weekend for a pair of SCAC games at the Gold Dome, facing Schreiner on Friday, Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m. and Trinity on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.  Five of Centenary's  final seven games will be played at home.
