Men's Basketball defeats Schreiner, 66-63, In SCAC Play

Shreveport – The Centenary men's basketball team defeated the Schreiner Mountaineers, 66-63, on Friday in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at the Gold Dome.

The Gents (10-9, 7-5 SCAC) improved to 6-1 at home this season and won their second game in a row following Saturday's 85-79 road win at Johnson and Wales. Schreiner fell to 6-12 and 4-7 in SCAC play.

Centenary outscored the Mountaineers, 31-25, in the second half after trailing by three (38-35) at halftime. The lead changed 13 times in the games and the score was tied on seven occasions in the back and forth contest. The Gents entered Friday's play fourth in the SCAC standings while Schreiner sat in seventh place.

Senior guard Cedric Harris (Shreveport) scored a game-high 21 points as he made 8-19 shots from the field in 37 minutes and grabbed nine rebounds. Harris has now scored in double figures in all 19 Centenary games this season and posted 29 points last Saturday at Johnson and Wales. He entered Friday's play as the second-leading scorer in the SCAC averaging 19.9 points per game and seventh in the conference in rebounding, averaging 8.2 per game. Harris has made the most (75) three-point baskets in the conference and ranked second in defensive rebounds, averaging 6.9 per contest, and added six more on Friday.

Freshman forward Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) scored 18 points in 26 minutes. He shot 4-9 from the field and connected on three of his six three-point attempts. Thomas added nine rebounds and scored in double figures for the fourth time this season and matched his season high in points and rebounds.

The Gents outrebounded the Mountaineers, 45-34, as four Gents collected nine rebounds with sophomore forwards Ty Prince (Thorndale, Texas) and Neil Hawkins (Titusville, Fla) each getting nine along with Harris and Thomas. Prince, playing for the first time since a Jan. 4 game at Trinity, scored nine points in 32 minutes and had two steals and an assist. Friday marked the first time this season that Prince did not reach double figures as he is averaging20.3 points per game on the season. Centenary shot 39.7 % for the game (23-58) while Schreiner shot 39.3 %. Three Mountaineers scored in double figures led by Chase Pinter's 19. Paul Wells and Matthew Rindahl each scored 11 points.  

The Gents face Trinity on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available. Four of Centenary's final six games will be played at home.
