Men's Basketball Faces Southwestern on Friday In SCAC Game

Shreveport – The Centenary men's basketball team will face the Southwestern Pirates on Friday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest set for 5:30 p.m. at the Robertson Center.

The Gents (11-9, 8-5 SCAC) completed a weekend sweep of a pair of conference opponents last weekend with a 71-65 victory over Trinity on Sunday at home after defeating Schreiner, 66-63, on Friday. Southwestern enters Friday's play at 9-10 overall and 5-7 in SCAC play. Centenary defeated the Pirates, 84-74, on Jan. 10 in the first meeting between the teams. Centenary enters this weekend's action fourth in the SCAC standings just a half game behind Austin College and a half game ahead of Dallas. Southwestern is tied for sixth place with Trinity.

Senior guard Cedric Harris (Shreveport) scored 14 points to lead the Gents to Sunday's win over Trinity as he has now scored in double figures in all 20 Centenary games this season. He also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and recorded his sixth double-double of the season. Harris scored 21 in Friday's victory over Schreiner and had nine rebounds.

He is the fourth-leading scorer in the SCAC averaging 19.7 points per game and seventh in the conference in rebounding, averaging 8.5 per game. Harris has made the most (78) three-point baskets in the conference after making three on Sunday and ranks second in defensive rebounds, averaging 7.1 per contest, and added 17 more in the last two games including 11 on Sunday.

Sophomore forward Ty Prince (Thorndale, Texas) had 13 points and 10 rebounds against Trinity, his fifth double-double of the season, and has also reached double figures in points in every game he has played this season. Prince ranks third in the SCAC in scoring at 19.8 points per game and is eighth in rebounding at 8.2 per game. Prince is also second in the league with 23 blocked shots and fifth in defensive rebounds with 5.9 per game.

The Gents rank fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 75.7 points per game and third in rebounding offense, averaging 40.8 per game. Centenary's defense is impressive as well as the Gents rank second in the league in field goal percentage defense and defensive rebounds.

The Gents will face Texas Lutheran on Saturday in Seguin in their final road game of the season at 2 p.m. Centenary then plays its final three games of the regular season at home versus St. Thomas, Austin, and Dallas.
