Ladies Set To Face Louisiana Christian University In Road Match

Pineville, La. – The Centenary volleyball team will face the Louisiana Christian University Wildcats in a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening set for 6 p.m. at H.O. West Fieldhouse.

The Ladies (4-4) went 1-2 over the weekend in the 2023 Hendrix Invitational hosted by Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Centenary split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating Lyon College 3-2 and falling 3-0 to the host Warriors, and dropped a 3-0 decision to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor University on Sunday afternoon.

Centenary tallied a season-high 54 kills and 49 assists in its win over Lyon and posted its second-highest digs total of the season (72) against the Scots. The Ladies averaged 54 digs, 36 kills, and 33 assists per match last weekend. Several Ladies had impressive individual performances last weekend.

Junior MB Elizabeth Canady (League City, Texas) posted a superb .412 hitting percentage with only one error in 17 total attacks and finished with eight kills and a pair of solo blocks in Sunday's match against Mary Hardin-Baylor, after posting had 18 kills, four digs, an assist, and a solo block in Saturday's two matches. Freshman MB Bailee Henderson (Monroe, La.) capped off a solid weekend with four kills against the Cru on Sunday after an impressive pair of matches on Saturday and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She had a team-high and season-high 15 kills, two solo blocks, and a dig against Lyon and followed that up with eight kills, an ace, a block, and a dig against Hendrix.

Sophomore S Meadow Smith (Mansfield, Texas) finished with a match-best and career-high 43 assists in the win over Lyon and added 15 digs. She also had an ace and a kill. She then totaled 13 assists and 10 digs with two aces in Sunday's match, junior OH/DS Kiara Liedy (Sugar Land, Texas) led the way in digs with a season-high 24 (three shy of single-match career-high of 27) against Lyon and added three assists. She added a team-best 14 digs against UMHB on Sunday, and junior RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) had 11 digs, nine kills, two aces, an assist, and a solo block in the win over Lyon and led the way in kills with 10 against the Cru and added six digs, an assist, an ace, and a solo block.

Freshman OH/DS Mackenzie Haley (Orange, Texas) tallied 11 kills and eight digs with one assist in the Lyon match and  posted eight kills and seven digs against the Cru, sophomore DS/L Daly Nagot (Benton, La.) had seven digs, two aces, and a kill against Lyon and had six digs against UMHB, and senior MB/OH Robin Lemelle (Liberty, Texas) added four kills and two digs against Lyon and tallied four more kills against the Cru. Freshman RS/S Victoria Larson (Royse City, Texas) matched Smith with a team-high 13 assists against UMHB, which was a season best for the rookie.

Smith currently ranks fourth in the conference in assists (210), Canady is tied for second in the league in solos blocks (6), and Henderson is fifth in the league in solo blocks with five. Centenary averages 10.79 kills per set, 10.07 assists per set, and 16.46 digs/set this season.

The Ladies swept the Wildcats twice last season, once in Pineville and once at the Gold Dome. Centenary leads the all-time series 7-1 and made its first appearance in Pineville since 2018 last season and will return for a second time in a row on Tuesday.
