Centenary (1-0) opened its 2021 regular season on Tuesday at home with a solid 6-1 win Louisiana College. The Gents won their ninth-straight home opener and also won for the fourth time in their last five home games dating back to last season.

Friday's meeting between the Gents and Tigers is the first of three scheduled contests between the two teams this season. Centenary is scheduled to travel to Marshall, Texas to face ETBU on March 2 and March 23 after Saturday's scheduled doubleheader there was rescheduled for the two separate dates next month. The Tigers are off to a 2-0 start this season after sweeping Jarvis Christian on Tuesday in a doubleheader at home by scores of 8-3 and 9-2. The Gents went 3-0 last season versus the Tigers.

The Gents finished with 12 hits on Tuesday as five Centenary senior players collected two hits apiece.  Second baseman Tyler Erickson (Houston, Texas), third baseman Chris Haggard (Lake Charles, La.), and first baseman Preston Ludwick (Pflugerville, Texas) led the way with multiple hits along with Luke Royle (Dodge City, Kan.), and Tyler Welch (Alexandria, La.). Fellow senior right fielder Crowder (Shepherd, Texas) went 1-3 with an RBI, a walk, and two runs scored.

Senior Conner Poche (Lutcher, La.), Centenary's second pitcher of the afternoon on Tuesday, picked up the win as he pitched two innings and allowed no runs on one hit and struck out three. Senior Connor Lee (Sugarland, Texas) started the game and went an inning and recorded a strikeout as the Gents used eight pitchers in all in the season opener. Centenary pitchers combined for eight strikeouts with just three walks.
