Baseball Faces Louisiana College In Final Non-Conference Game on Wednesday
The No. 19 Centenary baseball team plays its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday as the Gents face the Louisiana College Wildcats with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Billy Allgood Field at Legacy Stadium.

The No. 19 Gents (27-5, 12-3 SCAC) and Wildcats (20-9, 16-5 American Southwest Conference) will meet for the second time this season after Centenary opened the season with a 6-1 win over the Wildcats at home on Feb. 9.

The Gents are ranked for the sixth week in a row in the national poll and held off the St. Thomas Celts on Sunday by a score of 7-5 at Shehee Stadium to sweep a three-game weekend series in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Centenary remained undefeated at home this season and have set a single-season record for home wins (16) in the division III era (2012-present).
The Maroon and White are now 16-0 at home this season and 19-1 in their last 20 home games overall, and are also an incredible 36-9 in their last 45 games dating back to the beginning of last season. The Gents have now swept seven series this season with five of those sweeps coming at home.
Centenary leads the SCAC in team batting (.328 average), team pitching (3.31 ERA), and team fielding (.975) and also lead the way in runs scored (272), hits (358), home runs (21), and are second in stolen bases (56). The Gents' team on-base percentage is an impressive .420 and are slugging .474.
Sophomore Parker Primeaux (Lake Charles, La.) shut the door for his conference-leading eighth save of the season in the 7-5 win over St. Thomas on Sunday, as he pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit with a walk and a strikeout. Primeaux is now tied for second in the country in division III in saves.
Senior Conner Poche (Lutcher, La.) started and went the first 3.2 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits with no walks and one strikeout. Senior right-hander Andy Purpura (Bozeman, Mont.) relieved Poche and pitched three effective innings to pick up the win and move to 3-0 on the season. He allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits with no walks and one strikeout.
Senior RF Cody Crowder (Shepherd, Texas) and fellow senior, 3B Chris Haggard (Lake Charles, La.), combined to go 4-8 in Sunday's win with four RBI and two runs scored. Crowder had three RBI and his two-run triple in the second tied the division III era (2012-present) for extra-base hits in a career (82).
Junior CF Gary Hewitt (Cedar Park, Texas) went 1-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Hewitt also stole two bases and Crowder and Haggard each swiped a bag.
In game one of the Gents' doubleheader sweep last Saturday, Senior P Preston Ludwick (Pflugerville, Texas) started on the mound and picked up the win to move to 7-1 on the season as he allowed just one earned run and six hits in six solid innings of work. He threw 101 pitches, 63 for strikes, and walked just two with a career and season-high 11 strikeouts.
He was also 1-2 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored in the 12-3 win. The Gents collected four extra-base hits including a season-high three triples.
In game two, Centenary scored in double digits for the second game in a row and 15th time this season. The Maroon and White collected 13 hits and the Gents hit three more triples to tie their season single-game high set in game one earlier in the day and had five total extra-base hits. Crowder's double in the eighth inning broke the all-time record for hits in a career by a Gent in the division III era (2012-present) as he now has 226 in his superb career.
Senior lefty Connor Lee (Sugarland, Texas) started and picked up the win to move to 6-1 on the season as he was superb in his seven innings of work, allowing just three hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Centenary travels to San Antonio, Texas this weekend for a critical three-game conference series against Trinity on Saturday, April 24 and Monday, April 25. The Gents then close the regular season with another key three-game series at home versus Texas Lutheran, April 30-May 1.
The Gents' quest for a regular-season conference title is right in front of them over the final two weekends as Trinity (22-3, 10-1 SCAC) and Texas Lutheran (19-2, 10-2 SCAC) are currently first and second in the conference standings while Centenary is third. Centenary will hold its annual Senior Day ceremony following the second game of its doubleheader on Saturday, May 1. The games are scheduled for Noon and 3 p.m. following a 6 p.m. series opener the night before, Friday, April 30.
