Shreveport - The Centenary baseball team is ranked No. 25 in the latest 2021 D3baseball.com/NCBWA Week 4 poll, it was announced on Tuesday.

The Gents (13-2) are off to the best start in the division III era (2012-present) and are one game ahead of the pace of the superb 2017 team which began 12-3 en route to a 35-10 overall record, a SCAC Tournament Championship, an an NCAA Tournament appearance. Centenary recorded a doubleheader sweep over the LeTourneau YellowJackets on Saturday in Longvie, Texas, sweeping them for the second day in a row, as the Gents recorded 5-3 and 11-4 victories after winning a pair at home on Friday by a combined score of 23-1. The Gents have been a mainstay in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA rankings throughout the division III era as they have been ranked in every season but two. 

Centenary, which is currently on a season-high seven game winning streak and was receiving votes in last week's poll, outscored LeTourneau 39-8 in the four games, scoring 11 or more runs three times and the Maroon and White have now won 22 of their last 28 games overall going back to the start of last season. Centenary has now scored 10 or more runs in a game seven times this season, and 11 or more five times and have done so four times during its current season-best seven-game winning streak. 

Junior Ben Bridges (Beckville, Texas) was one of many Gents who had a superb weekend and currently leads the SCAC in RBI with 17 and is batting .309, has an .OBP of 412, and is slugging .455. He has two homers, two doubles, 12 runs scored, and 17 total hits. Senior pitcher/first baseman Preston Ludwick (Pflugerville, Texas) leads the SCAC in ERA (1.25) and is tied for second place in RBI with 16. Ludwick is batting .373 this season with a .471 OBP and is slugging .4912. He also has four doubles and a homer. 

The Gents will then open SCAC play this weekend at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The three-game series will begin on Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday the 20th at 1 and 4 p.m.
