Baseball Continues Best Start in Division III Era With DH Sweep on Saturday

Longview, Texas - The Centenary baseball team continued its sensational start to the season with a doubleheader sweep over the LeTourneau YellowJackets for the second day in a row, as the Gents recorded 5-3 and 11-4 victories at Conrad-Vernon Field.

The Gents (13-2) extended their season-high winning streak to seven and are off to the best start in the division III era (2012-present) and are one game ahead of the pace of the superb 2017 team which began 12-3 en route to a 35-10 overall record, a SCAC Tournament Championship, an an NCAA Tournament appearance. Centenary won a pair of games over the YellowJackets on Friday at home by a combined score of 23-1 and then returned the favor on Saturday with the 5-3 win in eight innings of game one and another blowout win in game two. Centenary outscored LeTourneau 39-8 in the four games, scoring 11 or more runs three times and the Maroon and White have now won 22 of their last 28 games overall going back to the start of last season. Centenary has now scored 10 or more runs in a game seven times this season, and 11 or more five times and have done so four times during its current season-best seven-game winning streak. 

The Gents will then open SCAC play next weekend at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The three-game series will begin on Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday the 20th at 1 and 4 p.m.
