The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m. The Diamond Gents (3-1) won three of four games over the University of the Ozarks to open their season Feb. 10-11 at home. The Scots (2-6-1) defeated Millsaps 16-6 in seven innings on Tuesday. Centenary took three of four from Alma at home last season. The Diamond Gents' annual trip to California for multiple non-conference games was cancelled due to the Winter Storm that hit the state last weekend.

Centenary scored 35 games in the four games and continued its excellent play of late at home as the Maroon and White are 36-9 at Shehee Stadium since the beginning of the 2021 season. The Diamond Gents won their season opener 11-1 in seven innings, then won 8-3, and following a 5-2 loss, finished off the weekend with a 14-3 win.

The Maroon and White finished the season-opening series with a .340 average, .446 OBP, slugged .485, and had 35 hits including 12 extra-base hits. The pitching staff was also impressive as it combined for a 2.25 ERA, allowing just seven earned runs in 28 innings pitched with 27 strikeouts and only seven walks. Centenary stole seven bases in the 14-3 win, which is tied for the eighth-most in a single game in the division III (2012-resent) era.

Centenary All-American sophomore LHP Tyler Herrera (Spring, Texas) picked up right where he left off following a phenomenal rookie season as he tossed a complete game one-hitter with just one walk and a career-high 10 strikeouts in the Diamond Gents' 11-1 win. Herrera (1-0) allowed a two-out single in the third and that was all as he yielded just one unearned run as he recorded his third-career complete game. He was subsequently named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week as a starting pitcher on Feb. 23 following his gem as well as being named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 14.

Freshman 3B Hayden Stringfellow (Boerne, Texas) finished off an impressive weekend in his collegiate debut as the rookie hit a sizzling .417 with an OBP of .467 and slugged .500 along with a team-leading seven RBI. He finished 5-12 at the plate in the four games with a double, two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base.

He was 7-12 at the plate in four games with three RBI, six runs scored, a double, and a walk. He also stole two bases and had three multi-hit performances. He went 2-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a sacrifice fly in his Diamond Gents' debut. Boone is currently second in the conference in hitting.

Freshman LF Lenny Forth (Flower Mound, Texas) hit .467 in the opening series, matching Boone for the team lead in hits (7), had five RBI, and scored five runs. He had two doubles and slugged .600. He is sixth in the SCAC in hitting.  Sophomore DH Cade LaBruyere (Iowa, La.) and junior C/1B Austyn Benoit (Welsh, La.) got off to impressive starts as well as LaBruyere is hitting .300 (.462 OBP) with three hits, three RBI, and five runs scored with three walks and three stolen bases. Benoit is batting .444 with a .455 OBP and slugging .889. Freshman RF Carson Livesay (Lafayette, La.) hit .333 (.571 OBP/.778 slugging) with six runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, one triple, five walks, and a stolen base.

Freshman RHP Cade Josting (Bossier City, La.) made his collegiate debut in the 14-3 win and picked up the win as he went 4.2 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two of the 20 he faced. Senior RHP Christian Diaz (Houston, Texas) pitched the final 4.2 innings of the Diamond Gents' only loss of the series and held the Eagles scoreless on five hits with four K's.
