
Baseball Plays Host To Schreiner For Weekend Series
The Centenary baseball team will face the Schreiner University Mountaineers in its final Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference home series of the season beginning on Friday with first pitch set for 6 p.m. at Shehee Stadium.

Centenary will honor its 2023 senior class following game two of Saturday's doubleheader. The ceremony will also be live streamed.
The Diamond Gents (13-11, 5-6 SCAC) earned a doubleheader split with the University of St. Thomas Celts last Saturday at home, falling 5-3 in game one and rebounding with a 9-5 with in game two. Friday's game was postponed due to rain and is unlikely to be made up. Schreiner (15-14, 4-8 SCAC) lost two of three games at home against Texas Lutheran and enters this weekend on a two-game losing streak but the Mountaineers are 9-7 away from home this season. Centenary took two of three games from Schreiner last season in Kerrville, Texas.
Senior RHP Parker Primeaux (Lake Charles, La.) enters the series as Centenary's anchor on the pitching staff as he leads the team in wins, appearances, and innings pitched. He is 4-0 with a 3.04 ERA and a save in 47.1 IP. He has struck out 43 batters, second on the team, and walked just 13 in his 13 appearances and five starts. All-American sophomore LHP Tyler Herrera (Spring, Texas) is 3-4 with a 3.92 ERA in seven appearances (all starts). He has struck out a team-best 49 batters in 43.2 IP (second on team) and has tossed a team-leading two complete games.
Freshman RHP Jacob Broussard (Houston, Texas), freshman LHP Cody Myers (Friendswood, Texas), and freshman RHP Aidan Reichek (Bellaire, Texas) – three rookies from the state of Texas, are the top arms in the Diamond Gents' bullpen. The Diamond Gents own a team ERA of 3.67 with three complete games, three saves, and three shutouts.
Broussard is 1-2 with a save and a 1.86 ERA in 12 appearances, second-most on the team, and has struck out 12 in 19.1 IP. Myers is 1-1 with a save and a 3.63 ERA in nine appearances (four starts) and has pitched 22.1 innings. Reichek is 1-1 with a 2.90 ERA and has logged 31.0 IP over nine appearances and four starts. He tossed a no-hitter against Dallas at home on March 25 in an 18-0 run-rule win in seven innings. The no-hitter is the first thrown since Matthew Devillier held Austin College hitless on April 20, 2018 at home. Reichek and Devillier's no-hitters are the only two in the division III era (2012-present) in program history. Following his no hitter, Reichek was named to the named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Div. III Rookie of the Week, and the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Centenary is hitting .274 as a team (.354 on-base percentage/.339 slugging) and is averaging 6.5 runs per game, has scored double-digit runs in a game six times, and 10+ hits in a game 12 times. Freshman OF Carson Livesay (Lafayette, La.), junior 2B Jobee Boone (Opelousas, La.), Senior CF Gary Hewitt (Cedar Park, Texas), freshman 3B Clay Menard (Berwick, La.), and junior C/UT Austyn Benoit (Welsh, La.) are all hitting over .300 this season led by Livesay's .380 average.
Livesay is second on the team in hits (30) and has scored a team-high 25 runs with 12 RBI (third on team). He has a team-best five doubles and two triples, and is tied for the team lead in home runs with one. He has seven stolen bases in 10 attempts, nine multi-hit games, and in 79 at-bats he has only struck out 11 times while drawing 11 walks. Boone is batting .352 (.400 OBP/.386 slugging) with a team-best 31 hits and 18 RBI. He has scored 18 runs, has three doubles, and seven stolen bases in eight attempts. He has only struck out four times in 88 at-bats compared to six walks. Hewitt is hitting .308 (.350 OBP/.352 slugging) in a team-high 91 at-bats. He has stolen a team-best 10 bases in 11 attempts and is third in hits with 28. He has scored 20 runs (second on team) and has 13 RBI. He has two doubles and a triple and has just nine K's and six BB.
Menard and Benoit have combined for 31 hits, 22 runs scored, 20 RBI, three stolen bases, four doubles, a triple, and a homer. Senior SS Noah Koehmstedt (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore OF/DH Cade LaBruyere (Iowa, La.) have also been productive this season as the two have combined for 35 hits, 29 runs scored, 20 RBI, eight doubles, and a triple. They have also stolen a combined 16 bases in 18 attempts.
Schreiner hits .328 as a team (.411 OBP/.426 slugging) and has hit 13 home runs. The Mountaineers average 6.7 runs per game but struggle on the mound with a staff ERA of 6.80. Centenary is 24-3 all-time against Schreiner and 14-1 all-time against them at Shehee Stadium. The Diamond Gents, 10-6 at home this season, are 43-14 on their home field since the beginning of the 2021 season.
Centenary and Schreiner are both battling for a berth into next month's SCAC Baseball Championship (May 5-7) in Cleburne, Texas. The Diamond Gents, the defending tournament champions, are currently fourth in the league standings and one game ahead of the Mountaineers. The top four teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the event.
