Chris Zapata has joined the Centenary baseball staff as an assistant coach, Director of Athletics and Recreation David Orr announced.
Shreveport – Chris Zapata has joined the Centenary baseball staff as an assistant coach, Director of Athletics and Recreation David Orr announced.
Zapata, who starred for the Gents from 2015-18, was a First-Team All-American as a junior in 2017 and earned All-Region honors in 2016 and 2017. He was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2017, Freshman of the Year in 2015, and was a four-time All-conference player.
The California native made the SCAC All-Tournament Team three times, named the SCAC Player of the Week three times, and earned a spot on the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week three times in his career. He is in the all-time top 10 in 17 different statistical categories as arguably the top offensive player in program history in the division III era (2012-present).
Zapata joins head coach Mike Diaz's staff which includes two other former Gents' stars in Cody Crowder and Tyler Welch.
