The Diamond Gents (9-14) and Demons (14-9) will meet for the first time since 2010 back when both programs were division 1. The Demons lead the all-time series 36-11 since 1990 but despite the lengthy history this is the first meeting between the teams since Centenary transitioned to Division III.
Centenary was swept in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series on the road at Concordia University over the weekend, falling the series opener 10-5 on Friday night to the Tornados and then were swept in a doubleheader on Saturday, 12-2 in eight innings in game one and 14-4 in seven innings in game two.
Centenary is hitting .260 as a team with a with a .363 OBP and slugging percentage of .348. The Diamond Gents have hit eight home runs and collected 193 hits of which 46 are extra-base hits. Centenary's pitching staff has a 5.33 ERA, allowing 154 runs (117 earned) and 210 hits in 197.2 IP.
Sophomore 1B Alex Miller (Cypress, Texas) has followed up a fantastic rookie season with a sensational second go-around with the Diamond Gents as he is hitting a team-high .345 with a .430 OBP and is slugging .506. He has a team-high 30 hits, is tied for the team lead in RBI (16) and has scored 16 runs along with six stolen bases. Miller has hit a pair of home runs, eight doubles, and has been hit by a pitch three times.
Senior LHP Tyler Herrera (Spring, Texas) has been the Diamond Gents' top pitcher this season as he ranks sixth in the conference in ERA (2.63) and is tied for second in strikeouts (40) and fifth in innings pitched (41.0). He is 4-2 in seven appearances (all starts) with one complete game.
Centenary is at home this weekend for a conference series versus the University of the Ozarks Eagles (7-13, 3-12 SCAC). The series starts on Friday with a single game at 6 p.m. followed by a DH on Saturday (1 and 4 p.m.).
