
Baseball On Road For Tough Test At Concordia
The Centenary baseball team is on the road this weekend to face the Concordia University Tornados in a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with the series opener set for Friday at 6 p.m. at Gardner-Boggs Field.

The series between the Diamond Gents (9-11, 5-7 SCAC) and Tornados (17-6, 10-5 SCAC) concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader set for Noon. Centenary, having played the majority of its schedule so far at home, is just 2-1 on the road this season while the Tornados are 8-2 at home. Concordia is ranked 22nd national in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Coaches Poll and is currently receiving votes in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll.
Centenary and Concordia will meet for just the third time this weekend with the Tornados holding a 2-0 edge in the all-time series with the most recent game coming in the 2017 NCAA Tournament in Tyler, Texas won by Concordia 13-4 that ended Centenary's season. The teams also met in 2015 in Seguin, Texas in a game won by Concordia 4-3.
The Diamond Gents and Tornados now meet for the first time as conference opponents. Centenary was picked to finish third in the league this season in the preseason coaches' poll while Concordia was picked second and received three first-place votes. The Tornados are currently second in the standings behind Trinity University (11-1) while the Diamond Gents are seventh. The top four teams in the conference standings at the conclusion of the regular season will clinch a berth in the conference tournament. The 2025 SCAC Baseball Tournament will be held May 2-4 at Dell Diamond Park in Round Rock, Texas.
Centenary is hitting .257 as a team with a with a .366 OBP and slugging percentage of .342. The Diamond Gents have hit seven home runs and collected 167 hits of which 38 are extra-base hits. Centenary's pitching staff has a 4.24 ERA, allowing 118 runs (83 earned) and 176 hits in 176.0 IP.
Freshman IF Noah Paulson (El Lago, Texas) leads the team in batting average at .359 with a .458 OBP and is slugging .410. He has 14 hits in 39 at-bats with nine runs scored, seven RBI, a pair of doubles, four walks, and two stolen bases.
Sophomore 1B Alex Miller (Cypress, Texas) is hitting .325 (.409 OBP/.481 slugging %) and is the team leader in hits (25) and is second on the team in RBI (14) and runs scored (15). Miller is also tied for second in home runs (two) and second on the team in doubles (six). Freshman LF Brody Hebert (Houma, La.) is hitting .278 (.386 OBP/.528 slugging) with a team-leading three home runs, 10 hits, nine runs scored seven BB, and four stolen bases and freshman IF Aron Gillum (Shreveport, La.) is batting .280 (.386 OBP/.307 slugging) with 21 hits (second on team) and 13 runs scored with eight RBI.
Senior SS Jobee Boone (Opelousas, La.) is hitting .221 (.338 OBP/.368 slugging) with 15 hits, 19 runs scored, 10 RBI, two home runs, nine BB, four stolen bases, and two doubles, and a triple. Freshman OF Blaine Birkelbach (Pearland, Texas) is hitting .250 (.316 OBP/.308 slugging) with 13 hits, nine runs scored, eight RBI, four BB, and a double and a triple. Sophomore C/IF Miles Keith (Lindale, Texas) is hitting .276 (.391 OBP/.414 slugging) with 16 hits, 15 RBI, eight doubles, and eight runs scored.
Senior LHP Tyler Herrera (Spring, Texas) leads the conference in ERA (1.50) this season and is second in strikeouts (36) and third in innings pitched (36.0). He is tied for 69th nationally in division III in ERA and tied for 15th in K's. Herrera is 4-1 in six appearances (all starts) with one complete game.
Freshman P Coen Laroux (Woodworth, La.) is 2-2 in 11 appearances with a 1.59 ERA. The rookie has 18 K's in 17.0 IP while only allowing 11 hits and three earned runs. Freshman P Tony Barcelona V (Pearland, Texas) is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in eight appearances and he has allowed just three earned runs in 11.0 IP with five K's.
