Baseball Faces St. Thomas At Home This Weekend
The Centenary baseball team returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend as the Diamond Gents will face the University of St. Thomas Celts with the series opener set for Friday at 6 p.m. at Shehee Stadium.

Shreveport – The Centenary baseball team returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend as the Diamond Gents will face the University of St. Thomas Celts with the series opener set for Friday at 6 p.m. at Shehee Stadium.

The series between the Diamond Gents (5-5, 2-4 SCAC) and Celts (2-3, 1-1 SCAC) concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader set for 1 and 4 p.m. Centenary, 3-4 at home, took a break from league play on Wednesday and recorded an impressive 11-1 run-rule victory in seven innings over the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans on at Shehee Stadium. St. Thomas, 2-3 on the road this season, split a pair of conference games last Sunday at Southwestern University.
Centenary was picked to finish third in the league this season in the preseason coaches' poll while St. Thomas was seventh. The Diamond Gents took two of three games from the Celts last season in Houston and lead the all-time series 7-4.
The Diamond Gents were swept in their first league series of the season against Texas Lutheran University and then won two of three against Austin College in their second series.
Centenary is hitting .252 as a team with a with a .367 OBP and slugging percentage of .342. The Diamond Gents have hit five home runs and collected 81 hits of which 17 are extra-base hits. Centenary's pitching staff has a 5.01 ERA, allowing 56 runs (48 earned) and 92 hits in 86.0 IP.
Freshman LF Brody Hebert (Houma, La.), freshman IF Aron Gillum (Shreveport, La.), sophomore 1B Alex Miller (Cypress, Texas), and freshman IF Noah Paulson (El Lago, Texas) have all gotten off to hot starts offensively as each are hitting .340 or better.
Gillum leads the team in hits (15) followed by Miller's 14, and Hebert's 10. Hebert leads the team in RBI with 10 and is followed by Miller's seven and three players – Gillum, sophomore DH Walker Wicklund (Shreveport, La.), and freshman OF Blaine Birkelbach (Pearland, Texas) each have six. Hebert has a team-high three home runs.
Four pitchers have an ERA of 2.50 or lower that have pitched 5.0 innings or more - Senior LHP Tyler Herrera (Spring, Texas), freshman UT Tyler Hughes (Coushatta, La.), freshman P Coen Laroux (Woodworth, La.), and freshman UT Tony Barcelona V (Pearland, Texas).
The Diamond Gents have been dominant at home recently as they are an impressive 64-25 at Shehee Stadium since the beginning of the 2021 season. Centenary is in the midst of a season-high 11-game homestand that lasts until March 15 and features games against Adrian, Occidental, and Schreiner University.
