Lacrosse Falls to Huntingdon In Season Opener On Sunday

Shreveport - The Centenary men's lacrosse team dropped their season opener by a score of 20-5 to Huntingdon College on Sunday at Mayo Field.

The Gents (0-1) fell behind early in the game after a strong first quarter from the visiting Hawks. The Gents, though, rallied as they scored three straight goals to go into the half training only 7-3.

"We made a number of early season mistakes through penalties and not capitalizing on opportunities in the first half," said Centenary head coach CJ Seling.

"Brooks Smitha (Shreveport) controlled the faceoff x, winning over 70% of his faceoffs," said Seling.

"Brooks gave our guys a bunch of extra possessions with his hard work winning a bunch of draws for us. He was a definite asset out there today."

The Hawks' experience and deep bench proved to be the difference in the game as they were able to pull away from the Gents after halftime.

Freshman Michael Mosura (Bossier City) and John-Mark Waniewski (Bossier City), a pair of local products and former teammates at Airline High School each made their collegiate debut and promptly found themselves on the score sheet. Mosura finished the game with two goals, one assist and three ground balls, and Waniewski finished the day with two goals.

The Gents now will hit the road to face LaGrange (Feb. 14), Oglethorpe (Feb. 16), and Birmingham-Southern (Feb. 18) before returning home for three-consecutive home games in early March.
