Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 To UT Dallas On Sunday

Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team fell 3-0 on Sunday to the UT Dallas Comets in a non-conference match at Mayo Field.

The Ladies (2-4) and Comets (6-1) survived two separate lightning delays totaling an hour causing the match to last over three hours. The Comets took a 1-0 lead into halftime and then added a pair of second-half goals. Centenary also lost a 3-0 decision to the Belhaven Blazers on Friday while UT Dallas defeated Shreiner 5-0 on Friday.

UT Dallas' Josie Meeks scored the first goal for the Comets as she found the net in the 11th minute off an assist from Stephanie Ward. The defenses for both teams controlled the majority of the match and the score remained 1-0 until the Ladies caught a bad break as they deflected a ball into their own net for an own goal and a 2-0 deficit in the 61st minute. UT Dallas forward Bella Granada was credited with the goal as she was the closest Comet to the ball. Granada added an insurance goal in the 84th minute to make the score the final 3-0 margin.

Centenary senior goalkeeper Avery Sanderson (McKinney, Texas) took the loss to fall to 2-3 as she allowed all three goals and recorded four saves in 90 minutes. UT Dallas GK Mariana Gonzales (5-1) pitched the shutout and made two saves in her 90 minutes of action. The Comets finished with a 12-7 edge in shots with seven on goal to just three for the Maroon and White.

Centenary then remains away from home to open conference play on Friday, Oct. 1 at Trinity in San Antonio, Texas followed by an Oct. 3 match at Schreiner in Kerrville, Texas.
