Centenary will be looking for its first home win of the season as the Maroon and White enter Friday's match 0-3 at Mayo Field this season with losses to ETBU, Belhaven, and UT Dallas. Three of the Ladies' final six regular-season matches are at home. Centenary is still an impressive 13-7 in its last 20 home matches.
The Ladies struck first in then match last Sunday at Schreiner as sophomore F Daisy Acosta (Deer Park, Texas) found the net in the 35th minute for an unassisted goal and her second goal of the season. The Ladies' defense stifled the Mountaineers for the majority of the match until Schreiner's Caroline Quiroga scored in the 72nd minute to tie the match off an assist from teammate Phebe Musasa. Centenary responded well following a disappointing 8-0 loss to Trinity last Friday in its SCAC opener.
Senior GK Avery Sanderson (McKinney, Texas) played all 110 minutes and made three saves. The Ladies out-shot the Mountaineers, 18-9, and each team took six corner kicks. Sanderson ranks fourth in saves (34) in the conference and fifth in goals against average (GAA) at 2.22. Junior F Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) and senior Gabby McDonald D/MF (Pasadena, Texas) are tied for sixth in the SCAC in shots (20).
Acosta is the team leader in both goals (2) and points (4) while junior F Avery Gilbert (League City, Texas) is next with three points as she has scored one goal and tallied one assist. McDonald has scored one goal for two points, Bascomb has one assist and a point, and sophomore D/MF Alexa Hinojosa (Pasadena, Texas) has one goal and two points.
The Ladies and Celts are meeting for the second time this season, but for the first time in a conference match. Centenary recorded a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory back on Sept. 10 in Houston. Gilbert found the net midway through the second OT to give the Ladies the road win. Junior MF Ariel Muller (Groves, Texas) was credited with the assist.
Centenary will take a break from conference play on Sunday as the Ladies travel to Longview, Texas to face LeTourneau in a match set for 5 p.m. The Maroon and White are then back home for a pair of SCAC matches on Friday, Oct. 15 versus Southwestern (7:30 p.m.) and then face Texas Lutheran in its annual Senior Day match on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
