
Ladies Set To Open SCAC Play On Friday At Trinity
The Centenary women's soccer team is back on the road this weekend as the Ladies open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday versus the Trinity University Tigers in a match set for 4 p.m. at Paul McGinlay Soccer Field.
San Antonio, Texas- The Centenary women's soccer team is back on the road this weekend as the Ladies open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday versus the Trinity University Tigers in a match set for 4 p.m. at Paul McGinlay Soccer Field.
The Ladies (2-6) and Tigers (6-0-1) are meeting for the first time since last April when Trinity spoiled Centenary's Senior Day as the Tigers scored a goal with just seven seconds remaining in the second overtime period for a 1-0 win. Centenary enters conference play desperate for a victory as the Maroon and White were blanked 2-0 by the Southwestern Pirates last Sunday on the road and suffered their fourth-straight shutout. The Ladies' last victory was a 1-0 double-overtime win at St. Thomas in Houston on Sept. 10. The Ladies are 11-5 on the road since the beginning of the 2019 season which includes a historic win at Alcorn State back on Sept. 8 as they defeated a Division I opponent for the first time in the current division III era (2011-present) with the 2-1 win over the Lady Braves.
Centenary senior GK Avery Sanderson (McKinney, Texas) currently ranks fifth in the conference in goals against average (1.65) and seventh in saves with 22 and has recorded one shutout. Junior F Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) and senior MF Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) are currently tied for fifth in the SCAC in shots with 15 each and tied for the team lead. Bascomb is tied with three others for the team lead in assists with one and she ranks third in points (1).
McDonald is tied for the team lead in goals (1) and tied for second in points with two. Junior F Avery Gilbert (League City, Texas) is the team leader in points with three as she has scored one goal and tallied one assist.
The Ladies wrap up the road weekend on Sunday, Oct. 3 with another conference match versus the Schreiner Mountaineers at Noon in Kerrville, Texas. Centenary's next home match will be Friday, Oct. 8 versus St. Thomas at 5 p.m.
