Andrew Bennett Named SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week

Bennett claimed his first-career individual title on Tuesday as he fired an 11-under par 129 to win by two shots at the UMHB Men's Invitational hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at Sammons Park Golf Course. Bennett's victory guided the Gents to a sixth-place finish in their season-opening event, as the Maroon and White shot an 11-over par 571.

Bennett finished two shots ahead of Trinity's Jacob Mason (9-under par 131) as he becomes the first Gent to win an individual title since Richard Polan at the 2022 Rhodes Spring Classic. Bennett's 6-under par 64 in Monday's first round marked the lowest round by a Centenary men's golfer in the Division III era (2011-present) and he followed that up with a 5-under 65 on Tuesday, highlighted by consecutive birdies to cap his winning round.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Jacob Mason of Trinity led the way for the Tigers at the UMHB Invitational after shooting a two-round total of 131 (66-65) to finish second place individually. Mason shot an incredible nine-under for the week, but finished two shots off the medalist from Centenary College. Mason was second in the tournament with 11 birdies over the 36 holes of action this week, and he was one of three Trinity golfers to shoot under par. Graduate student Drew Hermesmeyer of Schreiner shot rounds of 71, 74 and 71 for an even-par total of 216 at the Redlands/Bulldog Fall Invitational. He finished tied for seventh in the 80-player field and led Schreiner to a second-place team finish. Junior Tobey Wills of Texas Lutheran finished tied for seventh with a final tally of 220 (+4) over 54 holes to lead the Bulldogs at the Rhodes College Fall Classic. Wills was the highest-finishing SCAC participant in the field. Junior Marshall Hatcher of St. Thomas had an outstanding final round, jumping an impressive 17 places in the standings at the UMHB Invitational. He fired a 67 (-3) in the final round, showcasing his skills with four birdies and 11 pars, for a total score of 142. Junior Bryce Stiemert of Southwestern led the Pirates to a ninth-place showing at the Rhodes College Fall Classic, finishing in 12th place individually after a final round of a two-under 70. Stiemert completed the three round event with a 221 (75-76-70). Sophomore Iain Griggs of Dallas led the way for the Crusaders at the Rhodes College Fall Classic, finishing tied for 13th (along with his teammate Rex Soulliere) at +6 for the tournament. Griggs shot the second lowest round of the tournament with his round two score of 68, only bested by Bill Gussler of Rhodes College who shot a 67 in his opening round.
