Gents Seventh Headed Into Final Round At Hal Sutton Invitational

Bossier City – The Centenary men's and women's golf teams completed the first day of action in their annual home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational, on Monday at The Golf Club at Stonebridge.

The final round is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with an awards ceremony afterward. Both the men's and women's field played 18 holes on Monday as the men were challenged by a par 72, 6,851-yard layout and the women tested by a par 72, 5,814-yard course.

Blinn College's "A" squad is the men's team leader after round one after shooting a 12-over par 300 and is 15 shots ahead of three teams tied for second place at 27-over par 315 - Louisiana Christian University, Blinn's "B" team, and Mississippi University for Women. Jacksonville College is in fifth place at 30-over 318, Tyler Junior College is sixth (31-over par 319), Howard Payne University and the Gents are tied for seventh place at 42-over par 330, and Belhaven University is ninth at 67-over 355.

Tyler leads on the women's side after shooting a 48-over par 336, Blinn is second at 66-over 354, MUW is third (85-over 373, McMurry University is fourth (112-over par 400, the Ladies are fifth at 118-over 406, Jacksonville is sixth (121-over 409), and Weatherford College is seventh (136-over 423). Three women's schools competed but only with individuals– Howard Payne, Texas Lutheran University, and Millsaps College.

Blinn's Jacob Holloway holds the individual lead on the men's side after one round after shooting a 1-over par 73 and is one shot ahead of two of his teammates, Cason Holzshu and Preston DeSerrano, who are tied for second place at 2-over par 74. Three players are tied for the women's individual lead at 8-over par 80 – Blinn's Emily Madeley, Annie Piggott of Millsaps, and Tyler's Ayana Dailey.

Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) shot the Gents' lowest score of the day (3-over par 75) and is tied for fourth place with Louisiana Christian's Blake Francis and only two shots off the lead. Freshman Hailey Adams (Hamburg, Ark.) had the lowest round for the Ladies (21-over par 93) and is tied for 12th place.

Freshman Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) is tied for 28th place at 11-over par 83, sophomore Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) shot a 13-over par 85 and is tied for 35th place, junior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) is tied for 37th place at 15-over par 87, and senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) shot a 20-over par 92 and is tied for 42nd.

Sophomore Hahn Bridges (Sterlington, La.), sophomore Parker Christensen (Castle Rock, Colo.), and sophomore Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas) all played as individuals. Mayer and Bridges each shot a 26-over par 98 and Christensen shot a 41-over 113 and is in 49th place.

Sophomore Kaylee Roberts (Watonga, Okla.) is currently in 26th place for the Ladies after shooting a 31-over par 103, freshman Mya Thompson (South Jordan, Utah) is right behind her in 27th place at 32-over par 104, freshman Jordyn Templeton (Columbus, Texas) shot a 34-over par 106 and is in 31st place, and freshman Mia Knox (Chicago, Ill.) is in 39th place.
