Victoria, Texas – The Centenary men's golf team shot a 109-over par 973 to finish ninth at the UHV Fall Classic hosted by University of Houston-Victoria on Tuesday at the par 72, 6,870-yard Victoria Country Club.
The Gents shot a 33-over par 321 in Tuesday's final round after shooting a 76-over par 652 on Monday in rounds one and two to finish in eighth place. Host Houston-Victoria won the tournament after shooting a 35-over 899 to edge Blinn College's "A" team by one stroke.
The University of Texas at San Antonio finished third (55-over par 919), the University of Dallas was fourth (58-over 922), Blinn's "B" squad and Our Lady of the Lake University tied for fifth at 76-over 940, Louisiana Christian University finished seventh (81-over 945), and University of the Southwest finished eighth at 108-over par 972, one shot ahead of the Gents.
UHV's Joshua Van Der Wath, the day one leader, fired a 1-under par 71 on Tuesday to win the individual title at 2-under par 214, six shots over UT-San Antonio's Jacob Pena and Blinn's Jacob Holloway (4-over par 220).
Freshman Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) was disqualified in round one on Monday and did not record a score, but he wound up shooting a 9-over par 153 to tie for sixth place after shooting a 6-over par 78 in round two and followed that with a final-round 3-over par 75. Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) tied for 32nd place after a 6-over par 78 on Tuesday. He shot 80-81 – 161 (+17) on Monday and was tied for 35th place.
Sophomore Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) finished in a tie for 35th place at 25-over par 241 after shooting a 14-over par 86 on Tuesday. Senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished in 50th place at 38-over par 254 and junior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) finished 52nd at 52-over 268.
