Women's Basketball Falls At Colorado College

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a 59-44 decision to the Colorado College Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday at Reid Arena.

The Ladies (1-16, 1-9 SCAC) face Johnson and Wales (2-13, 2-8 SCAC) on Saturday at 7 p.m. central (6 p.m. local time). Live stats and live video stream are available via www.gocentenary.com.

Nine of Centenary's losses this season have been by 14 points or less, eight by 11 points or less, and five single-digit losses displaying how hard the Ladies have played. Colorado College improved to 11-6 and 7-3 in SCAC play.

Freshman forward Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) and Junior guard Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) each scored 13 points to lead the Ladies. Colorado College was led by McKenzee Gertz's 17 points as she was the only player in double figures for the Tigers. Centenary shot 25.8 % from the field for the game while the Tigers shot 30.9 %.

Mayberry continued her impressive play as she scored in double figures for the third-straight game and fourth time in the last five games. She has scored 52 points in the last four games. The Ladies played without leading scorer, junior forward Bre Frierson (Shreveport), who averages 13.7 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game which were both good for eighth-best in the conference entering Friday. Frierson has reached double figures 11 times this season and ranks in the top 10 in the SCAC in field goal percentage, blocked shots, and offensive rebounds.

Senior forward Deunya Small (Shreveport) had another solid performance with 15 rebounds, four points, three blocks, one assist, and one steal in 29 minutes. Small had seven points and 10 rebounds in 26 minutes last Saturday at St. Thomas and entered Friday's play ranked seventh in the conference in rebounding, averaging 7.1 per game, and ninth in assists (43) and sat in a three-way tie for second in defensive rebounds with 89.

Centenary grabbed 46 rebounds against the Tigers. The Ladies are one of the top rebounding teams in the conference, averaging 40.1 per game entering Friday which was tied for fourth in the conference with Texas Lutheran.

The Ladies return home next weekend for a pair of SCAC games at the Gold Dome, facing Schreiner on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. and Trinity on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. Five of Centenary's final seven games will be played at home.
