Women's Basketball Falls On Road At Texas Lutheran

Seguin, Texas - The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a 78-64 decision to Texas Lutheran on Saturday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Ladies (1-21, 1-14 SCAC) fell 47-34 at Southwestern on Friday. Texas Lutheran improved to 8-13 and 6-8 in SCAC play with the win. Twelve of Centenary's losses this season have been by 14 points or less, with eight by 11 points or less and six by single digits displaying how hard the Ladies have played and how competitive they are.

Freshman guard Destini Powell (Minden, La.) scored a season-high and game-high 26 points in 28 minutes and reached double figures for the seventh time this season. She made 7 of 13 shots from the floor and connected on six of nine three-point attempts and made six of her seven free throws.

Senior Deuyna Small (Shreveport) had a solid game with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists in 33 minutes. Junior forward Bre Frierson (Shreveport) had six points and six rebounds in 24 minutes. Junior guard Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) played 38 minutes and had six points, six rebounds, five assists, and a steal.

The Ladies shot 40 % (24-60) from the floor for the game and made six of their 10 three-point attempts for 60 % and only missed three free throws on the day, making 10 of 13. Freshman forward Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) scored seven points off the bench in 16 minutes and five rebounds and one block.

The Ladies, one of the top rebounding teams in the SCAC, outrebounded the Bulldogs, 39-36, one day after outrebounding Southwestern 46-37. Four Texas Lutheran players were in double figures, led by Cami Davis and Tara Molina who scored 12 points apiece.

The Ladies will close the regular season with three-straight home games against St. Thomas (Feb. 14), Austin College (Feb. 21), and Dallas (Feb. 22) on Senior Day.
