Women's Basketball Finishes Season With Dominant Win Over Dallas

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team dominated the University of Dallas Crusaders on Senior Night, 73-51, on Saturday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (2-23, 2-16 SCAC) ended their season on a high note by scoring a season-high 73 points and earning their largest margin of victory. Centenary defeated Southwestern by four, 61-57, on Jan. 10 at home in its previous victory. The Ladies dropped a 56-44 decision on Friday to Austin College, one of the top teams in the SCAC. Thirteen of Centenary's losses this season were by 14 points or less, with nine by 12 points or less and six by single digits displaying how hard the Ladies played and how competitive they were.

Centenary raced out to a 38-22 lead at halftime and outscored the Crusaders by six in the second half to cruise to the comfortable victory. Seniors Essa Badon (Prairieville, La.) and Deuyna Small (Shreveport) were honored in a pregame ceremony and then the two promptly combined to score 24 points and grab 11 rebounds. Badon recorded a season-high in points while Small reached double digits in points for the second time this season.

Junior forward Bre Frierson (Shreveport) led the Maroon and White with 21 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor with 12 rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 23 minutes. Frierson entered the weekend as the team leader in points per game, averaging 12.2, and was second on the team in rebounding with 6.7 per game. She ranked ninth in the SCAC in both scoring and rebounding entering Friday's action and was fifth in the SCAC in field goal percentage and third in offensive rebounds.

Freshman guard Destini Powell (Minden, La.) scored eight points in 23 minutes and grabbed five rebounds, a night after leading the Ladies in scoring with nine. Freshman forward Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) and freshman forward Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) combined to score nine points and junior Jeanne Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) scored nine with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 25 minutes.

Centenary outrebounded the Crusaders, 46-25, after outrebounding Austin College by three (47-44) on Friday. The Ladies entered the weekend as one of the top rebounding teams in the SCAC, ranking fifth in the league in both rebounding offense and defense. Centenary shot 46.6 % for the game from the floor while Dallas shot 31 %. Madi Horne and Beyonce Perry led the Crusaders with 17 points apiece.
