Women's Basketball Faces Southwestern On Friday In SCAC Contest

Georgetown, Texas - The Centenary women's basketball team will face the Southwestern Pirates in a road Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday at the Robertson Center.

The Ladies (1-19, 1-12 SCAC) fell at home to Trinity last Sunday while Southwestern (6-13, 4-8 SCAC) defeated Texas Lutheran at home last Friday in its most recent game. Centenary looks for the season sweep over Southwestern as the Ladies defeated the Pirates 61-57, at home on Jan. 10 in the first meeting between the teams.

Ladies' freshman forward Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) led the Maroon and White with 11 points on Sunday against Trinity. Bagwell, who scored a career-high 14 points in just 15 minutes off of the bench in Friday's 65-50 loss to Schreiner, made 5-6 shots in 20 minutes on Sunday and also grabbed six rebounds.

Ten of the Centenary's losses this season have been by 14 points or less, with eight by 11 points or less and six by single digits displaying how hard the Ladies have played and how competitive they are.

Junior forward Bre Frierson (Shreveport) was held to just four points in 14 minutes off the bench on Sunday as she played in her second game in a row after missing the previous weekend's road trip to Colorado. Frierson failed to reach double figures for the first time since Dec. 7 and Sunday marked just the sixth time all season she did not score 10 or more points in a game. She entered the game averaging a team-best 13.5 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game which both rank in the top 10 in the SCAC. She also ranks in the top 10 in the SCAC in field goal percentage, blocked shots, and offensive rebounds.

The Ladies wrap up the road trip with a game at Texas Lutheran on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m. The Ladies will close the regular season with three-straight home games against St. Thomas (Feb. 14), Austin College (Feb. 21), and Dallas (Feb. 22) on Senior Day.

Live stats and live video are available for all home games and admission is FREE to all Centenary home athletics events.
